The Space
Yesterday Spaces sits on 70 acres of working farm land in Leicester, North Carolina, about 12 miles southwest of Asheville. The property was owned by the Sluder family for well over 100 years as a dairy farm growing tobacco and other crops. Today, Gaining Ground Farm operates the agricultural side, raising Red Devon cattle using sustainable practices and growing organic vegetables. This is a genuine working farm, not a decorative one, with animals and crops actively managed. A restored 1911 Farmhouse with period furnishings serves as a guest space and can sleep up to 13 people.
The ceremony field offers mountain views across pasture land. A historic Dairy Barn of undocumented age stands nearby and can be used for ceremonies or as a pre-ceremony gathering space. The Event Barn contains the main reception hall with elegant hardwood flooring that opens onto two 60-foot decks. A cocktail garden sits between the barn and decks. This is the kind of place where the venue’s authenticity comes from its real history and active operation, not from decoration.
Capacity & Layout
The reception hall comfortably seats 250 guests with room to spread out. The two 60-foot decks provide extensive covered and semi-covered outdoor space for dining, cocktails, or overflow. The hardwood flooring in the Event Barn is elegant and polished, quite different from a rustic barn aesthetic. A bonfire ring sits in the Event Field for after-reception gatherings. A tractor-pulled wagon is available to transport guests around the property, useful for getting from ceremony field to barn or between event spaces.
An 1800s carriage road runs through the property, offering photo opportunities or processional routes that feel genuinely historic. The Farmhouse with parlor and bedroom spaces provides bridal preparation areas. On-site parking is available on the property.
Amenities
A professional kitchen is available on-site. External catering is permitted if you want to bring your own chef. A professional sound system is included with the venue. Built-in bars are part of the reception space. An extensive inventory of tables, chairs, antique furniture, china, glassware, and event decor is included in the site fee, reducing what you need to rent separately. The 1911 Farmhouse is available for overnight stays with its period furnishings, adding to the authentic historical experience.
Because we’ve worked events here before, we know the venue has reliable staff and well-maintained spaces. The combination of professional kitchen, catering permission, and included sound system means you have real flexibility in how you execute food and audio. The included furniture and decor inventory can significantly reduce rental costs.
Location & Getting There
Leicester sits in the foothills of western North Carolina, 12 miles from downtown Asheville. The property is at the foot of the Blue Ridge, surrounded by pasture, woods, and working farmland. This is a rural, pastoral landscape, not a mountain resort area, but with genuine mountain views from the ceremony field. The Asheville location gives you access to a real city while maintaining the rural farm aesthetic.
The Event Barn’s hardwood floors and open layout, combined with the professional sound system included, make this a DJ-friendly space. The hard flooring provides good sound projection, and the 60-foot decks mean you can distribute audio to outdoor areas if needed. The barn’s wooden structure naturally amplifies and distributes sound effectively, and the included sound system is designed to work with the space’s acoustics.
