The Space

Since 1839, this land in what is now White Township, Warren County, has stayed in one family, first as a general farm and now as Wyckoff’s Christmas Tree Farm. Simon Wyckoff bought the original 172 acres for $8,067.50, about $47 an acre, and for well over a century it worked as a self-sufficient farm raising livestock and grain before it became the Christmas tree operation guests know today.

The shift to Christmas trees happened in 1958, when John Wyckoff Sr. and his 14-year-old son John Jr. started planting, turning part of the farm into what has grown into a multi-generation tree operation. A Christmas barn on the property now sells holiday decor and gifts alongside the trees, giving the farm a retail center as well as fields. The operation today runs across thirteen generations of the Wyckoff family, eight of them on this very site, a continuity that is unusual for a farm this size.

Capacity & Layout

The farm spans 170 acres today, with 65 of those acres actively growing Christmas trees, more than 7,000 of them available to choose from at the start of a season. That is a working agricultural layout, rows of trees across open fields rather than a built venue with a fixed guest capacity, so any event here would take its shape from the farm’s own seasonal rhythm rather than a fixed floor plan.

Guests choose between cutting their own tree in the field or picking a fresh-cut one already prepared, and guided hayride tours run on weekends starting Black Friday, weather permitting, giving visitors a way to see more of the 65 planted acres than they could cover on foot alone.

Amenities

Wyckoff’s trees have won recognition well beyond a local county fair. A Wyckoff tree was named the 2013 National Grand Champion, and the farm has taken the New Jersey Grand Champion award ten times, a track record that speaks to how the trees are grown and shaped over their years in the field before anyone ever walks the rows to pick one.

The Christmas barn rounds out the visit with holiday decor and gift items, so a stop here is not limited to just selecting a tree. Between the barn, the hayride, and the fields themselves, the farm gives visitors a full afternoon rather than a quick transaction, which is part of why the tradition keeps families coming back season after season.

Location & Getting There

The farm sits in White Township, Warren County, on land that has stayed with the Wyckoff family since 1839, now farmed across multiple generations on this same site. That kind of continuity is unusual for a property this size, and it shows in how established the tree rows and farm buildings are compared to a newer operation just starting out. Warren County’s rural character, open fields shaped by generations of one family’s continuous ownership, is part of what has kept the tradition intact for nearly two centuries.

As an outdoor farm with fields, a hayride route, and one retail barn, this is not a space built around indoor sound or a dance floor, and any music or announcements here would carry the way open farmland does, clear but without walls to hold or shape it, closer to an outdoor market than an enclosed event room.
