The Space

Wild Dunes Resort spans 1,600 acres on the northern tip of Isle of Palms with 2.5 miles of Atlantic beachfront. The resort began in 1972 when the Isle of Palms Beach and Racquet Club opened July 4, 1977, initially with two tennis courts. Tom Fazio designed the Links Course, which opened in 1980 and became world-ranked within 18 months, prompting the rename to Wild Dunes. The Harbor Course, another Fazio design, opened in 1986 and won Golf Magazine’s Gold Medal award. Hurricane Hugo damaged the resort in 1989, but Lowe Enterprises acquired it in 1990 and rehabilitated all facilities. The Boardwalk Inn opened in 1998 and has earned the AAA Four Diamond award every year since, and the newer Sweetgrass Inn features 153 guest rooms with Lowcountry architecture.

The resort offers 15 private event spaces including the Osprey Ballroom at Sweetgrass Inn (6,764 square feet with sweeping ocean views), multiple garden oasis spaces, and both covered and uncovered outdoor venues. Beach ceremony sites, Grand Pavilion, and Croquet Lawns provide numerous configuration options for celebrating couples. The setting combines championship golf, resort hospitality, and ocean views.

Capacity & Layout

Wild Dunes accommodates up to 500 guests across its 15 dedicated event venues and 35,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The Osprey Ballroom seats large groups with indoor elegance and access to oceanfront terraces. The Grand Pavilion provides 10,200 square feet of covered space, the Sweetgrass Pavilion offers separate ballrooms totaling over 9,000 square feet, and the North and South Croquet Lawns provide 12,500 and 5,000 square feet of manicured outdoor ceremony and reception areas respectively.

We’ve worked events here and know the resort’s flow. The multiple venues allow a couple to host ceremony at one location, cocktails at another, and dinner and dancing in a ballroom or pavilion. Valet parking is available at the resort hotels, and ADA accessible rooms and facilities are throughout the property.

Wild Dunes includes on-site dining with seven year-round restaurants plus seasonal options, full bar service, and concierge support for guest accommodations. The Sweetgrass Inn features The Spa at Wild Dunes (10,000 square feet with 14 treatment rooms). Multiple pools, including oceanfront, family, and adults-only options, provide additional amenities for multi-day celebrations. Guest accommodations range from the AAA Four Diamond Boardwalk Inn to the newer Sweetgrass Inn to vacation rental residences on the property.

Tables, chairs, linens, and floral services are available through the resort’s event team. The multiple ballrooms and pavilions come equipped with built-in lighting and climate control, and the dedicated spaces have professional-grade audio capabilities suitable for DJ and entertainment needs.

Location & Getting There

Wild Dunes is located on the northern tip of Isle of Palms, a barrier island approximately 30 minutes south of historic downtown Charleston. Charleston International Airport is roughly 30 minutes away, making travel straightforward for out-of-town guests. The oceanfront setting and resort amenities mean guests can arrive days before or stay days after the event, turning a wedding into a family retreat.

The ballrooms feature high ceilings and professional sound infrastructure, with the Osprey Ballroom offering direct access to oceanfront terraces. The pavilions have open layouts that allow sound to project across outdoor spaces, and the grass lawns provide natural acoustics for ceremony sound systems.
