The Space
Whiskey Kitchen occupies a 1920 building on West Martin Street that started life as a garage, then went through stints as an EMS station and a hub for limousine services before opening as a restaurant and bar in August 2016. The renovation kept the building’s original garage door, which now works as the opening between the dining room and the patio instead of hiding it behind drywall.
Inside, a mural with a feast-like theme runs behind the bar, and the room itself carries the weight of a 300-plus bottle whiskey collection that the venue keeps adding to almost weekly. We worked this space, and the garage door is more than decoration, it is a real functioning divider that changes how the dining room connects to the patio depending on whether it is open or closed.
Capacity & Layout
The dining room seats 80 or holds 100 standing, and the patio adds another 100 seated or 150 standing, so a couple choosing a full buyout is looking at up to 200 seated or 300 standing across both spaces. That split matters for planning: the dining room works for a seated dinner while the patio handles cocktail hour or overflow standing space.
In-house catering with a customizable menu is included in the rental fee, which simplifies vendor coordination considerably compared to a blank-space venue. That kitchen is run by executive chef Ian McKenney, who joined the team in 2018 as a line cook and has worked his way up through the restaurant since. An on-site event coordinator is part of the package as well, along with a dressing room for the bridal party, so there is a place to get ready without leaving the building.
Amenities
The bar is a genuine draw here, full service with over 300 whiskeys and a rotating cocktail list, which suits a wedding where the bar itself is part of the evening rather than an afterthought. Wifi is available throughout, and the venue is wheelchair accessible for guests who need it.
The patio is pet-friendly, so a couple who wants their dog present for part of the day has that option, and string lights overhead give the space a finished look after dark without extra rental decor. Umbrellas cover parts of the patio, and the garage door itself can be rolled up in good weather to open the dining room straight onto it.
Location & Getting There
The venue sits in downtown Raleigh directly across from Nash Square Park, so the patio has an actual park view rather than a parking lot or street. Street parking is available nearby, and the Martin Lot sits about 280 feet west of the building for guests who want a guaranteed spot.
Being downtown means most guests are a short walk or rideshare from wherever they are staying, which keeps a Raleigh wedding weekend simple to move around. The restaurant itself keeps late hours on Friday and Saturday nights, so a wedding reception here can run well past what a typical banquet hall closing time would allow. For sound, the dining room’s hard floors and high ceiling carry a dance floor’s volume well, while the patio, open to the park and street, needs a DJ to manage levels more carefully once that garage door rolls up.
