The Space
The Warren Center was originally built as the headquarters for the World Methodist Council before Lake Junaluska purchased the building, along with an adjacent structure, in 2021 for $1.25 million. A $2.5 million renovation began in 2022, funded in part by Mike and Anne Warren, who gave $625,000 toward the purchase and another $1.1 million toward the renovation that the center is now named for.
The first event in the renovated space was held in June 2024, so the building a couple tours today is a recently finished conversion rather than a space that has hosted decades of weddings. It sits on a knoll next to the Susanna Wesley Garden, with views over Lake Junaluska and the surrounding mountains, and connects to the Terrace Hotel by a lighted pathway.
Capacity & Layout
Ceremony seating outdoors on the Musgrave Event Lawn holds up to 200 guests, while the Warren Center’s banquet hall seats 150 for the reception. That gap between the two numbers matters if a couple is inviting a larger crowd to the ceremony than they plan to seat for dinner, since the lawn accommodates more people than the indoor hall that follows it afterward.
Because the ceremony and reception sit in two different spaces connected by a short walk across the property, the day naturally divides into an outdoor portion on the lawn and an indoor portion in the banquet hall. A white canopy tent is available over the lawn, with sides that can be added for an additional fee if weather or the season calls for more coverage.
Amenities
The wider Lake Junaluska complex includes the Susanna Wesley Garden, a rustic chapel, and the Chrissy Hill Overlook, any of which could factor into portraits or a smaller ceremony moment separate from the main event. The Terrace Hotel and the Lambuth Inn both offer accommodation on the property, which matters for a wedding weekend where much of the guest list is traveling in from outside the area.
Having lodging directly on site, connected to the Warren Center by a lighted pathway, means guests are not driving between a hotel and the venue after dark, which is a real logistical advantage for an evening reception. Asheville Regional Airport is the nearest airport, useful context for a couple weighing how easy the venue is for out of town guests to reach.
Location & Getting There
Lake Junaluska sits about 25 miles from Asheville and close to the towns of Waynesville and Maggie Valley, in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The 25 mile distance from Asheville keeps the venue away from the city’s crowds while still leaving it within reach of the region’s main airport, a balance that matters for a mountain wedding drawing guests from further away.
We have worked an event on the Musgrave Event Lawn, where an outdoor ceremony on a lakeside lawn with mountain views around it needs a sound system built for open air, with the white canopy tent, when it is up, providing the only overhead surface for audio to work with; the indoor banquet hall inside the Warren Center is a more contained, conventional room by comparison.
