The Space
Walnut Creek Country Club traces back to the late 1960s, when Conway Rose and his partners built the club around a golf course designed by Ellis Maples that opened in 1967. The land itself has an older history: it was originally home to Native Americans and later to the Uzzell family, who had come to the area fleeing religious persecution in France generations earlier.
The centerpiece for a wedding is the ballroom, which holds one of Wayne County’s largest parquet wooden dance floors and was renovated at the end of 2025, so a couple booking it now is getting a recently updated room. Beyond the ballroom, the club has several smaller rooms, including the Lakeside Room, the Fairway Room, the President’s Room, and the Founder’s Room.
Capacity & Layout
The ballroom seats up to 400 guests or holds 600 standing, which is a real number to plan a large wedding around and puts it in range of the biggest guest lists a couple might bring to a single room. The Lakeside Room holds 90 seated or 150 standing with a view over Lake Wakena, while the Fairway Room seats 125 or holds 175 standing with a wide view across the course.
For a smaller gathering, the President’s Room and the Founder’s Room each hold up to 30 seated or 45 standing, useful for a rehearsal dinner or a more intimate ceremony ahead of a larger reception elsewhere on the property. Outdoor ceremonies are held lakeside among tall pine and oak trees, so a couple can put the ceremony outside and move the reception into one of the indoor rooms.
Amenities
Beyond the event rooms, the club has an 18-hole, par 72 golf course running 7,053 yards, five illuminated clay tennis courts, six illuminated pickleball courts, and an Olympic-size pool with a diving board and kiddie pool. For a wedding weekend rather than a single day event, those amenities give guests something to do before or after the main event itself.
The parquet dance floor in the ballroom is specifically called out as one of the largest in Wayne County, which is worth knowing if dancing is a priority for the reception. The recent renovation at the end of 2025 means the room a couple tours now reflects an updated version of the space rather than the older ballroom the club had for decades before.
Location & Getting There
Walnut Creek Country Club sits in Goldsboro, in Wayne County, with parking described as spacious and set next to the pool, tennis courts, golf course, and clubhouse, so guests are not walking far from their cars to the event space. The lakeside grounds, with pine and oak trees around Lake Wakena, give the property a wooded, water adjacent feel distinct from a purely indoor club.
We have worked a wedding in the ballroom, where the parquet wooden floor and the room’s large open footprint mean sound carries well across the dance floor but needs to be balanced against the size of the room; the smaller rooms, like the Lakeside and Fairway, are more contained spaces where a DJ system fills the room more directly with less distance to cover.
