The Space

Vault 634 occupies the Lehigh Valley Trust Building, a Gilded Age bank designed in 1911 by architects Ruhe and Lange that once served as headquarters for a major regional financial institution, one that stayed solvent through the Great Depression and became, in its own way, a symbol of hope for the city. Industrial Valley Bank closed its doors at the address in 1987, and the building sat largely vacant and used for storage for the next three decades.

Mark and Zachary Jaindl bought the building and put $5 million into an eight-month restoration starting in September 2017, reopening it as Vault 634 in May 2018. The renovation kept the original marble-fluted Corinthian pillars, hand-carved stone lion ornamentation and brass entry doorway on the facade, while quietly adding new HVAC, plumbing, electrical, sprinkler, acoustic and audio-visual systems behind the historic finishes.

Capacity & Layout

The Great Hall is the main event space, a 35-foot-high room under a 900-square-foot stained glass ceiling, with five Hess crystal chandeliers reclaimed and restored from Allentown’s historic Hess Department Store hanging overhead and gold-leafed molding running the room’s edges. It seats up to 225 guests and holds up to 450 standing, a range that covers both a seated dinner reception and a larger cocktail-style gathering in the same footprint.

Three antique bank vaults, delivered to the building in 1912 by ten-horse team and carriage from the York Safe and Lock Company, still sit inside, and four antique vault doors moved over from the old Allentown Train Depot required a forty-man crew to install during the restoration. Those vaults are not props brought in for atmosphere, they are the original hardware the building was built to protect money inside.

Amenities

Below the Great Hall, a basement speakeasy bar holds two separate lounges with fully stocked bars, plus access to a Safety Deposit Vault, and a custom bar has been built directly into one of the antique vaults elsewhere in the building. On-site catering runs through a full-service culinary team, and a dressing room is available as a bridal suite for the wedding party to use before the ceremony.

The venue carries a state-of-the-art AV and sound system along with complimentary WiFi, full-service event planning and coordination, and both wheelchair access and accessible parking. Vault 634 has also picked up recent recognition, including a 2023 WeddingWire Couples Choice Award and a 2023 Knot Best of Weddings award.

Location & Getting There

The building sits in downtown Allentown, and valet parking is offered as an optional service alongside street parking nearby, a convenience worth planning around for a couple expecting a large guest count arriving downtown for an evening event. Being in the heart of the city also puts hotels and restaurants within easy reach for out-of-town guests staying the weekend.

Sound in the Great Hall behaves the way you would expect from a 35-foot-high room with a stained glass ceiling and marble columns: the height and hard surfaces let volume carry a long way, so we build the DJ setup and speaker placement to fill that vertical space evenly rather than aiming everything at ground level, and the basement speakeasy below offers a tighter, closer-quarters alternative for cocktail hour music before guests head back upstairs.
