The Space
The house at the center of The Terraces was built in 1817 as a plantation home, and it still anchors the 20 acres it sits on just outside historic Camden, South Carolina. Known formally as The Terraces at Plane Hill, the property is considered one of the state’s more historic estates and gardens, and it opened as an event venue in May 2025 after standing as a private residence for more than two centuries.
What sets the grounds apart is the series of seven terraced gardens stepping down from the house, giving ceremonies and photographs a layered backdrop rather than a single flat lawn. The historic house itself, at 6,534 square feet with five bedrooms and four bathrooms, sits above the gardens, and a covered outdoor reception area gives the property a second event space beyond the terraces themselves.
Capacity & Layout
The Terraces holds up to 300 guests, a large capacity that comes from the combination of the terraced gardens, the covered outdoor reception area, and the historic house itself rather than any single room. That spread across multiple outdoor levels means a couple can put the ceremony on one terrace, cocktail hour on another, and the reception under cover, so the guest count does not have to funnel through one indoor room.
Inside the house, a bridal suite with a dedicated vanity room is set aside for the bride’s party, and a separate space called the Blue Room is reserved for the groom and his groomsmen, so both sides of the wedding party have their own room to get ready in rather than sharing one space or a hallway. Chairs, tables, and linens are provided as part of the rental, which simplifies planning for an outdoor event across several garden terraces.
Amenities
Because the property opened in 2025, it is a new addition to the Camden-area wedding circuit rather than a long-running fixture, and the terraced gardens themselves are the built-in amenity: seven distinct levels of planted grounds that a couple can walk with guests between the ceremony and the reception rather than staying in one fixed spot all evening.
The covered outdoor reception area gives weather protection without moving the party indoors, which matters on a plantation property where the gardens are the draw, and the rental package’s included chairs, tables, and linens mean a couple is not sourcing basic rental equipment separately for an outdoor setup spread across the terraces and the covered space.
Location & Getting There
The Terraces sits on 20 acres outside historic Camden, South Carolina, in Rembert, a rural stretch of the state rather than a town center, and the drive itself is part of the setting. Guests coming from Columbia or Charlotte are driving into open country to reach it, past the kind of working farmland that once made this part of South Carolina plantation territory in the first place.
With the ceremony and much of the reception spread across open, terraced, outdoor ground rather than a single enclosed hall, a DJ setup here has to plan for open-air sound across a stepped landscape rather than four walls holding the volume in, using the covered reception area as the anchor point where the music and dancing settle for the night.
