The Space
Long before it served coffee and quiche, this building was an office attached to the Cranford Hosiery Mill, built in 1925 when the mill was the center of a working industrial neighborhood in Asheboro. After the mill closed and the building sat empty, owner Dustie Gregson, who grew up nearby in Sophia, renovated it into The Table, a counter-service eatery, bakery, espresso bar, and market built around her own memory of gathering with family around a shared table.
The original pressed tin ceiling was hidden under a lowered ceiling until a roof leak caused part of it to collapse and expose the tin above, and it now runs white overhead through the main room. Seating is bench-style, built from old church pews rather than standard restaurant chairs, and a five-tiered chandelier made from 240 French milk bottles hangs down over the room, so the space reads as repurposed and specific rather than decorated to a theme.
Capacity & Layout
There is no published seat count for The Table, and it is a counter-service restaurant first, so it holds a small private gathering, like a rehearsal dinner or a shower, far more comfortably than a large reception. The main room’s church-pew bench seating and the outdoor patio give two distinct settings under one roof, which matters for a small group deciding between an enclosed, wood-and-tin interior and an open-air patio for the same event.
The outdoor patio is enclosed rather than a bare deck, with a fireplace and heaters built in for cold weather and fans for summer, so it functions as a second room rather than a fair-weather add-on. Between the indoor bench seating and the enclosed patio, a small party can be split across two settings, or kept together in whichever one suits the group and the season.
Amenities
The kitchen serves American breakfast and lunch fare, sandwiches, soups, and quiches, along with house-made desserts and Counter Culture coffee, and offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Free parking is available on the side streets and in the lot across the street at the Asheboro Farmers Market, which matters for a small private event since there is no dedicated venue lot.
The Table keeps a narrow schedule built around breakfast and lunch service, open Tuesday through Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday, with Friday the one night it stays open past mid-afternoon, until 9pm, though the kitchen itself closes at 2:30pm even on Friday. That Friday evening window, food service aside, is effectively the only time the room is open outside daytime hours, which shapes when any private gathering here can happen.
Location & Getting There
The Table sits in downtown Asheboro, close enough to the NC Zoo that it draws both local regulars and zoo visitors passing through, in a stretch of town built up around the old hosiery mill rather than a newer commercial strip. The five brick steps at the main entrance have handrails, and a ramp on the right side of the building gives step-free access.
The room is small, wood-benched, and tin-ceilinged, which makes it a live, reflective space rather than a carpeted banquet hall, so a DJ or a small speaker setup at a private gathering here should plan for a compact footprint and sound that carries easily off the hard surfaces, with the enclosed patio next door as a quieter overflow option.
