The Space
The Peninsula Yacht Club opened its membership rolls in February 1995, broke ground on its clubhouse that November, and held its grand opening in June 1996, building on a site that had been a marina since 1974 under the name Outrigger Marina. What started with about 540 members at the grand opening has grown past 1,000, and the club’s identity as a boating club comes through in the layout: a working marina sits alongside the event spaces, not tucked away from them.
The clubhouse itself holds a full-service dining room and lounge with an expansive veranda overlooking the water, plus the Commodore’s Room, a Library, and a Member Bar and Lounge for smaller gatherings. Outside, a spacious back lawn and a wraparound deck overlooking the harbor give a couple both a formal event lawn and a more casual water-view space to work with across a wedding day.
Capacity & Layout
The Main Dining Room seats up to 200 guests for cocktail hours and receptions, a room-sized number that suits a mid-size wedding without needing the outdoor lawn to fill the guest list. The Event Lawn scales much wider, from 50 up to 350 guests, and comes with a wedding arch already in place, making it the default ceremony site for most couples booking here.
Because the dining room and the Event Lawn hold such different capacities, 200 versus 350, a larger wedding naturally splits its day between the two: a ceremony on the lawn under the arch, followed by a reception that either stays outdoors for the full guest list or moves into the Main Dining Room and Veranda if the couple wants an indoor backup or a smaller, more intimate dinner setting.
Amenities
The marina brings 405 wet slips ranging from 25 to 45 feet, plus 5 transient slips at the gas dock, a fuel dock offering regular and diesel fuel, and two pump-out stations, so members and guests arriving by boat are genuinely accounted for rather than an afterthought. On-site dressing rooms give the wedding party a bridal suite without needing an off-site hotel room for getting ready.
A member pool with stroke lanes runs during the summer season from 10 am to 8 pm daily, useful for a rehearsal weekend as much as the wedding itself, and internet access with complimentary WiFi covers the practical side of a modern event. Full-service dining and bar service run through the club’s own kitchen and bar staff, so catering is handled in-house rather than coordinated with an outside vendor.
Location & Getting There
The club sits on Lake Norman, the largest inland lake in the Carolinas, roughly 20 miles north of Charlotte, close enough for a straightforward drive from the city while still delivering genuine lake-house scenery once guests arrive. Drive-up parking is available on site, which keeps arrival simple for a waterfront venue that could otherwise feel harder to reach than a downtown hotel.
For sound, the Event Lawn is the venue’s open-air space, so a ceremony under the wedding arch or a reception held there needs a PA aimed at the seated rows rather than left to carry across open water and lawn. Once the evening moves into the Main Dining Room and Veranda, the room’s finished walls and covered deck hold music closer, so we shift our setup between an open-air lawn configuration and an indoor dining room configuration depending on which space the couple is using at that point in the night.
