The Space
The Newell House is a 7,000-square-foot colonial-style home on 16 acres in Pleasant Garden, built as a five-bedroom residence that the Newell family moved into during the holiday season of 1983. The house did not start as an event venue: it was a family home for decades before opening for weddings in November 2022, so what a couple books is a real house on real acreage rather than a structure designed from the ground up for events. Because the venue is newer to weddings than most of the historic properties on our list, we have worked exactly one event here so far.
The front of the house carries stately white columns along the porch, the kind of feature that reads as a ceremony backdrop on its own without additional decor. With 7,000 square feet of interior space, the house has enough room to move a reception indoors if weather turns, which is not something every venue of this scale can offer, and it means the day does not hinge entirely on the forecast.
Capacity & Layout
The property’s 16 acres give a couple room to spread a wedding day across more than one setting: a ceremony spot away from the house, a reception tent or lawn area, and parking that does not compete with the ceremony site. Because the house itself has five bedrooms, the property can also support a wedding party that wants to get ready and stay on site rather than driving in separately the morning of.
We have worked a wedding at the Newell House, and can say the layout favors couples who want the acreage itself to shape the day rather than working inside a single fixed floor plan. The 7,000-square-foot house sets the ceiling for how large an indoor group can comfortably be housed if the event moves inside, and the columned porch offers a natural transition point between the house and the grounds for photos or a receiving line.
Amenities
Beyond the house’s size, column-lined porch, and acreage, our sourced material on the Newell House does not include a published list of amenities such as an in-house caterer, bar service, or dedicated bridal suite, so we are leaving that detail to the venue rather than guessing at what is or is not included.
What we can say is that a five-bedroom house gives more built-in getting-ready space than a typical single-suite venue, worth factoring into a wedding-day timeline if hair and makeup need to happen for more than one member of the party at once. A house of this size also tends to have more than one living or gathering room, which can double as a quiet space away from the reception for older guests or family photos.
Location & Getting There
Pleasant Garden sits south of Greensboro, and the Newell House’s 16 acres put it in a quieter, more residential setting than a downtown venue. Guests should expect a drive out from the city center rather than a walkable location, and out-of-town guests staying downtown should build extra travel time into the evening.
As a converted home rather than a purpose-built event hall, the house carries rooms sized for a residence, not a ballroom, so a DJ setup indoors benefits from a compact footprint sized to a living or dining room rather than a system built for a wide-open hall, while an outdoor setup on the 16 acres has room to spread out and needs to be positioned with the columned porch and open lawn in mind.
