The Space

The Little Herb House is a working herb farm in Raleigh built on a property with a distinctive history. The barn itself was originally constructed in the early 1970s as an airplane hangar to house a small aircraft. It was later converted to a 20-stall horse barn with an indoor riding arena. Craig and Lisa Treadaway purchased the farm in 1996 and continued operating it as a horse farm until around 2006, at which point Lisa began growing herbs on the property and selling homemade herbal products from an on-site gift shop.

The barn was transformed into an event venue after the first wedding was held there in 2009. In 2018, over 5,000 square feet of poured concrete flooring was added to the barn to accommodate dance floors and guest movement. The space retains its original barnwood, mason jar pendant lights, and 100-foot timber trusses, creating an industrial-rustic aesthetic. The surrounding 20-acre pasture, 10,000 square feet of display herb and flower gardens, and a three-acre pond with water gardens, arbor, waterfall, and rock bridge provide abundant outdoor ceremony and photography sites.

Capacity & Layout

The barn accommodates up to 250 guests seated for dinner. The 20-acre pasture works for outdoor ceremonies, while the herb gardens with pergola and fountain offer an intimate ceremony option. The water garden with pond, arbor, waterfall, and rock bridge creates a third ceremony setting. An 18-by-18-foot dance floor is installed within the barn, giving a defined space for dancing and keeping the rest of the barn available for dining.

The property’s scale allows couples to spread guests across multiple areas: ceremony in the gardens, cocktails on the pasture or by the water garden, and dinner and dancing in the barn.

Amenities

The barn includes original barnwood and exposed timber trusses, mason jar pendant lights, and stained concrete flooring. A furnished two-bedroom, two-bathroom guest house is available for the bridal party to use for getting-ready time. A parking attendant on staff assists with guest and vendor parking upon arrival and departure. All facilities are wheelchair accessible. A professional insured bartender is required if alcohol is served. The venue operates on a full-weekend rental model, available from 9am Friday through 5pm Sunday.

Lisa’s gift shop, housed on the property, sells homemade soap, shower gel, lotion, herbal teas, and lavender, giving guests a tangible connection to the working farm and owner’s herbal business.

Outdoor ceremony sites in the gardens or by the water garden are weather-dependent, but the barn provides full weather protection for reception sound and guest comfort.
