The Space
Lake Junaluska sits on 1,200 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains around a 200-acre lake formed when Richland Creek was dammed between 1911 and 1913. The property opened as a Methodist conference and retreat center in 1913, and it has hosted gatherings on the lake ever since, including weddings held at the Warren Center, which opened for that purpose in June 2024. The lake itself, with Inspiration Point overlooking it, has been the property’s defining feature since those first years.
The Warren Center was previously the headquarters of the World Methodist Council; it was purchased for $1.25 million in 2021 and renovated with $1.1 million in gifts from Anne and Mike Warren before reopening as an event space. It sits alongside the Musgrave Event Lawn, and couples can also use the Susanna Wesley Garden, which has both an open-air chapel and a covered gazebo option, or the stone-built Memorial Chapel elsewhere on the grounds.
Capacity & Layout
The Warren Center holds up to 200 guests for a ceremony and 150 for a reception, a scale suited to a mid-sized wedding rather than a full conference crowd, even though the surrounding property includes Stuart Auditorium, which seats 2,000 theater-style for the center’s larger conference events. Stuart Auditorium itself is a piece of the property’s early history, named for George R. Stuart, one of the assembly’s founders, after his death in 1926.
Because the Susanna Wesley Garden offers both an open-air chapel and a covered gazebo, a couple has a rain option built into the outdoor ceremony plan without switching properties. The Musgrave Event Lawn next to the Warren Center gives the reception room to spread from indoor to outdoor space over the course of the evening, and York Dining Commons is available separately for larger catered meals tied to a wedding weekend.
Amenities
The property includes over 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space and more than 400 lodging rooms across multiple buildings, including the historic Lambuth Inn, built in 1921 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, so a wedding weekend with out-of-town guests can be lodged entirely on site rather than sending people to a nearby town.
On-site catering is available through the property, and the grounds include walking trails along the lake, a golf course, and water activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding, which gives a wedding weekend built-in things for guests to do beyond the ceremony and reception. The Bethea Welcome Center adds another 12,000 square feet of indoor meeting space if a couple needs a rehearsal dinner room or a second gathering space.
Location & Getting There
The property sits about 30 miles west of Asheville, near Waynesville and Maggie Valley, with Asheville Regional Airport roughly 25 miles away, so an out-of-town guest list can fly into Asheville and drive the rest of the way in under an hour. The assembly operates year-round, so the mountain setting is available whether a couple is planning a summer wedding on the lawn or a smaller winter gathering indoors.
The Warren Center’s own construction and the surrounding stone and timber buildings on the property mean a DJ working a reception there is typically inside a finished, modern event room rather than an open barn, so sound stays controlled and predictable, while the adjoining lawn and garden spaces give the outdoor portions of the day a more open, natural acoustic away from the lake itself.
