The Space

The land under the Groome Inn was purchased in 1888, and the farmhouse itself went up not long after, on nine acres that the current owners have kept planted with gardens and native North Carolina flora rather than clearing for lawn. Mrs. Fred M. Groome Jr., known as Jimmie, bought the property in 2003 and remodeled it into a working bed and breakfast and event venue, so the house a couple tours today is a lived-in family home first and a wedding venue second.

Five different event spaces are spread across the property, mixing covered and uncovered outdoor options with the indoor rooms of the house itself, including a garden corridor where ceremonies are typically held. The house includes get-ready rooms for the wedding party to use before the ceremony, so there is no need to arrive already dressed or to rent a hotel room nearby just for that part of the day.

Capacity & Layout

The property holds up to 200 guests outside and 60 inside, a gap worth planning around directly: a guest list under 60 can be run entirely indoors regardless of weather, but anything larger needs the outdoor spaces to work, which means a couple with a bigger list should have a rain plan for at least part of the day since the indoor rooms alone will not hold everyone.

During the week, the property also hosts elopements for up to 25 people, a smaller and more private option than the weekend wedding format. The venue supplies round and rectangle tables, garden chairs, ceremony benches, and an altar or arch as part of the rental, which removes a meaningful line item from a couple’s rental budget since seating and ceremony structure do not need to be sourced separately.

Amenities

If the property is rented for the full weekend, it includes three bedrooms and a honeymoon suite for two nights, and the whole house can sleep up to 10 adults and 5 children overnight across five unique rooms, each with its own custom bathroom. That makes the Groome Inn one of the few venues in the area where the wedding party can genuinely stay over rather than just get ready and leave.

Bar service is available with bartenders running either an open or cash bar, and the property carries its own liability insurance for weddings and events, which simplifies the vendor and insurance conversation for a couple planning the day. On-site parking is provided, and the grounds are wheelchair accessible, so mobility is not a barrier to using the garden or outdoor ceremony spaces.

The garden corridor and covered outdoor areas are open to the air, so a ceremony sound system needs to be pointed directly at the seating rather than relying on walls to project it, while the indoor reception rooms in the farmhouse hold music and speeches in more tightly, calling for lower volume than an outdoor tent or lawn would need.
