The Space

The building that now houses The Goodyear House started life in 1902 as a mill home, and the restaurant that opened here in 2020, the first project from Charlotte’s Built On Hospitality group, kept the original coal-burning fireplace and hardwood floors rather than stripping them out. A 2019 renovation added onto the structure, and the different exterior color schemes on the building today still mark where those additions happened.

Inside, the Living Room is the space that leans hardest into that history: banquet seating made from reclaimed pews pulled from a historic neighborhood church, set against the original fireplace and hardwood floors. The Greenhouse is the newer counterpart, built during the winter of the pandemic with accordion-opening walls that let the room shift between fully enclosed and open-air depending on the weather.

Capacity & Layout

The Living Room seats 50 and functions as a semi-private space, which makes it a natural fit for a rehearsal dinner, a smaller reception, or a private party within a bigger event. The Greenhouse holds 40 seated and, because of its accordion walls and climate control, works as a genuine year-round room rather than a seasonal add-on that only makes sense in good weather.

Beyond those two named rooms, the property includes multiple patios, among them the Cedar Tree Patio, plus an expansive backyard area suited to ceremonies and receptions. That combination, two distinct indoor rooms plus real outdoor grounds, gives a couple more than one way to split a guest list across formal dinner, casual mingling, and an outdoor ceremony without renting a tent.

Amenities

A full bar operates on site, along with a private room for events and an outdoor firepit for guests who end up outside after dark. The building is wheelchair accessible and includes a gender-neutral restroom, and the patio is dog-friendly, details that matter for guests bringing a pet or navigating the space with mobility needs.

In-house catering is available directly through the venue, run by Executive Chef Chris Coleman, a Food Network champion with appearances on Chopped, Beat Bobby Flay, Alex vs. America, and Superchef Grudge Match. Live entertainment is already part of how the space operates day to day, so a DJ or band isn’t an unusual addition to the room, it’s consistent with what the venue already hosts.

Location & Getting There

The Goodyear House sits in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood, walkable from the 36th Street Blue Line stop for guests using light rail. Parking is street parking along Davidson, with the nearby YMCA lot available at specific times, weeknights after 9pm, Saturdays after 5pm, and Sundays before noon or after 5pm, worth noting for anyone driving in for an evening event.

Because the Greenhouse can open its accordion walls and the Living Room keeps its original hardwood floors and fireplace, the two main rooms behave differently for sound: the Living Room, fully enclosed with hard surfaces, holds and carries music the way a traditional indoor room does, while the Greenhouse, opened up, lets sound drift outward the way an outdoor patio would, so a DJ needs to know in advance which room, or which wall configuration, the reception will actually use.
