The Space
Long before it hosted a single wedding, this three-story brick building on North Main Street was a working tobacco factory, built in 1884 by brothers William H. and James N. Leak, the first such factory in Kernersville and older than R.J. Reynolds’ own plant in Winston-Salem. That industrial bones show today in soaring ceilings, exposed brick walls, and polished concrete floors across the event center and its mezzanine level.
The building changed hands and purposes for more than a century, from the Victor Knitting Mill and Hotel Willis in the early 1900s, through Vance Knitting Mill, Burlington Mills, Lynwood Furniture, and finally Hooker Furniture, which ran the plant until it closed in 2003. Outside, a brick courtyard with a fountain and greenery gives the property an outdoor space that still reads as part of the same historic complex rather than a bolted-on addition.
Capacity & Layout
The room is set up with 200 Chiavari chairs included, which is a good working number for a couple sizing their guest list against real seating rather than a rented estimate. The event runs across two floors, the main event center and a mezzanine above it, so a band or DJ setup, a bar, and guest seating can spread across levels instead of competing for the same square footage.
Tables included are 20 round 60-inch tables, one round 48-inch table, eight 8-foot banquet tables, ten 6-foot banquet tables, a sweetheart table, and eight cocktail tables, enough combinations to lay out a formal seated dinner, a mixed lounge-and-dinner floor plan, or a standing cocktail reception without renting outside furniture. Three optional cocktail hour spaces let a couple stage that portion of the night away from where dinner and dancing will happen later.
Amenities
The catering kitchen is built for a real service, with a commercial refrigerator, three hot boxes, an industrial ice machine, an industrial sink, and three workstations, so a caterer is not squeezing a wedding-sized menu through a home kitchen setup. A bar with a back bar is included, and adjustable lighting lets the room shift from bright for dinner to lower and warmer once dancing starts, all built into the rental rather than added separately.
Separate bridal and groom’s suites give each side of the wedding party its own space, the bridal room with a hanging rack and private bathroom, the groom’s room with exposed brick, a flat screen television, and a private mini fridge. Rental includes 12 continuous hours of exclusive use, free parking on evenings and weekends, WiFi, a dedicated venue manager on site, and three on-site Airbnb units for a couple who wants to keep the celebration going past the event itself.
Location & Getting There
The building sits in downtown Kernersville’s Factory complex, a mixed-use property with apartments above and businesses below, so the venue is part of an active small-town block rather than an isolated banquet hall. Free parking on evenings and weekends removes one of the usual logistics headaches for a downtown wedding, and the surrounding complex gives guests somewhere to walk before or after the reception if the evening runs long.
We have worked a reception in this room, and the mix of exposed brick, hard concrete floors, and a two-story ceiling gives the space real presence once music starts. For a DJ, the in-house sound system already installed in the room is a real advantage, and the polished concrete floor combined with brick walls means sound carries well across both the main event center and the mezzanine, so levels should be set to avoid overloading the harder surfaces near the dance floor.
