The Space
The English Country Barn took 13 months to build and was custom-designed around what couples actually need, the work of owners Ian and Teresa, who moved from England to the U.S. in 2005 and settled in eastern North Carolina before creating the venue. The reception hall itself has 30-foot soaring ceilings and a 16-foot solid wood bar, giving the main room a scale that reads as intentional rather than a converted farm building.
The property spans more than 300 acres of woodland, pastures and manicured grounds, and includes seven unique ceremony spaces, among them an indoor ceremony room, an outdoor chapel, and the Enchanted Wood, a spot guest reviews single out as especially beautiful. That range of ceremony options means a couple can pick a completely different setting for the ceremony than for the reception without leaving the property at all.
Capacity & Layout
The reception hall comfortably seats 200 guests, and inside it the banquet tables are solid wood and set on wheels, which lets the venue reconfigure the room’s layout rather than being locked into one fixed floor plan. That flexibility matters for a couple whose guest count or preferred layout, a long banquet-style setup versus rounds, for example, differs from the venue’s default arrangement.
Two dressing rooms, each with a refrigerator, a coffee maker and its own bathroom, give the wedding party a place to get ready without competing for space, and the barn is fully climate-controlled throughout, so the 30-foot ceilings and open floor plan do not come with the temperature swings that some barn venues have in the height of summer or the cold of winter.
Amenities
A full kitchen is on site, and the venue operates with an abundance of restrooms throughout rather than a single shared facility, which matters more as the guest count climbs toward 200. Catering can come from the venue’s preferred list, or from an outside caterer once approved by the venue, and alcohol service runs through a licensed bartender working from the 16-foot solid wood bar in the main reception hall.
For couples who want to bring a horse into the day, an adjoining 5-acre field holds a 4-stall horse barn, an option most venues simply do not offer. Three farmhouse-style cottages sit on site, two with three bedrooms and one newer one-bedroom cottage added in 2024, giving the wedding party or out-of-town family a place to stay overnight without leaving the property or driving to a hotel somewhere else.
Location & Getting There
The venue operates year-round, and tours are by appointment only, which is worth booking early given how much ground there is to see across the reception hall, the seven ceremony spaces and the grounds. Weekend access from Friday through Sunday is available for setup and rehearsal, which gives a couple more breathing room than a single-day rental to get everything in place.
We have worked a wedding here, and the reception hall’s 30-foot ceilings and solid wood construction give a DJ real height to work with for sound and lighting, while the fully climate-controlled interior means volume and clarity hold steady rather than drifting the way an open-sided barn can once the doors open to the outdoor ceremony spaces and the Enchanted Wood beyond.
