The Space

A fashion designer and her husband spent four years building this Lincolnton mansion, starting in 1970. Alda Crowe worked with architect Richard Gillespie to design a house patterned after Carter’s Grove Plantation near Williamsburg, meant to look old despite being brand new. Crowe herself designed for three North Carolina governors’ wives, including Carolyn Leonard Hunt, along with clients at Saks Fifth Avenue and Ivey’s department store, and she filled the house’s interior with ancient beams, flooring, and mantels salvaged from old homes and barns. The house has also had a moment on screen: part of the Lifetime movie My Stepson, My Lover was filmed here, a detail that still occasionally surprises guests touring the property for the first time.

Three connected spaces make up the venue today: the Crowe House itself, more than 9,000 square feet of antique-furnished rooms; the Backyard Terrace, where a double staircase cascades down to a brick-paved veranda; and the Reception Pavilion, a covered, open-air space of more than 6,000 square feet with its own catering kitchen, serving bar, and large fireplace. The mansion was purchased in 2022 by three women, Kayla Fuller, Allison Fuller, and Brandi Wyant, who took it on specifically to run it as a wedding and event venue.

Capacity & Layout

The Crowe House’s parlor and dining rooms hold up to 49 guests, a scale suited to a rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, or smaller pre-wedding gathering rather than the full wedding day. For the ceremony and reception themselves, the Backyard Terrace and Reception Pavilion take over, together holding up to 400 seated guests, room enough to scale from an intimate wedding up to a large one without changing venues.

The typical flow moves from the brick-paved Backyard Terrace for the ceremony and cocktail hour into the Reception Pavilion for dinner and dancing, with the pavilion’s catering kitchen and serving bar keeping food and drink close to the reception itself rather than staged somewhere out of sight.

Amenities

The bridal suite includes marble vanities and salon stations, built for a real hair-and-makeup timeline rather than a single mirror in a back room. The groom’s quarter is its own separate hangout in the basement, with a pool table, couches, a TV, and card tables, reached through its own entrance so the two sides of the wedding party are not sharing hallway space all morning.

A catering kitchen sits inside the Reception Pavilion alongside a built-in serving bar, and the venue offers ample parking with valet available as a package upgrade. Vendor-focused touches include ambient lighting, easy vendor dropoff, and flower refrigeration, along with full ADA accommodations throughout the property.

Location & Getting There

The Crowe Mansion sits in Lincoln County countryside outside Lincolnton, about 40 miles from Charlotte, close enough for a Charlotte-based guest list to treat it as a day trip rather than an overnight stay, and the venue books year-round rather than only in peak wedding season.

The Reception Pavilion’s covered, open-air structure sits between fully indoor and fully outdoor, so a DJ setup there has to fill a large, airy space with a fireplace and hard flooring rather than four contained walls, while a setup on the Backyard Terrace or inside the Crowe House itself is working with a tighter, more enclosed sound entirely.
