The Space

On the 12th floor of the Capital Club building in downtown Raleigh, The Cannon Room pairs original art deco plasterwork from the 1930s with windows running along three walls. The room is named for Isabella Cannon, Raleigh’s first female mayor, who served in the late 1970s. The building itself holds 44 light-filled suites with a contemporary twist, so the historic ballroom sits inside a building that has otherwise been brought fully up to date.

Because the windows wrap three sides of the room on the 12th floor, the space reads differently depending on where you stand relative to downtown Raleigh, and the panoramic views become part of the room’s decor rather than something guests have to step outside to see. An adjacent bar and lounge sits next to the main ballroom, giving cocktail hour its own space before guests move into the ballroom itself for the ceremony or reception.

Capacity & Layout

The Cannon Room seats 130 guests, which places it solidly in mid-size territory: large enough for a full guest list with a band or DJ and a dance floor, without the room swallowing a smaller gathering. Round and long tables, gold chiavari chairs and sofas are all included with the rental, which simplifies the floor plan conversation since the furniture pairing is already decided rather than something to source separately.

Two get-ready suites are available in the building, which means the wedding party does not need a hotel room elsewhere for hair, makeup and photos before the ceremony. With the ceremony and reception both able to use the same main ballroom, a planner can decide whether to do a full room flip between the two or keep tables set during a separate ceremony space nearby, depending on timeline and guest count.

Amenities

Rocky Top Catering operates as the venue’s exclusive catering partner, though outside catering is also allowed, giving couples flexibility on that front. A/V equipment is included for sound and lighting needs, worth confirming directly with your DJ so equipment does not overlap or conflict. The adjacent bar and lounge comes with accessories included for cocktail hour, and the room is fully wheelchair accessible.

The venue is pet-friendly and available year-round, and the 44 suites in the Capital Club building give a wedding weekend more to work with than just the ballroom itself, useful for a rehearsal dinner or an out-of-town wedding party staying on-site. Parking downtown can be limited, so guests are encouraged to plan ahead, though parking on W Martin Street and nearby downtown lots is available.
