The post-and-beam barn at the center of it holds over 4,400 square feet of indoor space, with an additional 1,000 square feet of covered porch that extends the usable footprint without putting guests fully outdoors.

Beyond the barn, the property includes waterfalls, a pond, gardens, and woods, so a walk from the ceremony site to the reception can pass through several distinct settings rather than crossing one open field. An outdoor pavilion overlooking the pond gives couples a second gathering point with water as the backdrop, separate from the barn itself and useful for cocktail hour or an outdoor ceremony.

Capacity & Layout

The venue seats 200 or more guests, and because the rental includes the entire property rather than a single building, couples get access to multiple ceremony locations across the grounds instead of one fixed spot. That range means a couple can choose between the vineyard rows, the pavilion by the pond, or a garden setting without paying extra for a second location.

Getting-ready suites and restrooms are built into the rental as well, so the wedding party has a private space to prepare without needing a separate off-site rental, and a French-country inspired farmhouse on the property can be reserved for guest accommodations, which matters for a couple hosting out-of-town family who would otherwise need to book a hotel block somewhere off site rather than shuttling everyone back to town after the reception.

Amenities

Because Union Grove is a genuinely working farm, the vineyards and orchards are not decorative, they are actively harvested each year, which gives the property a working character that shows up in photographs differently than a landscaped venue built purely for events. The farm sits just over 6 miles from downtown Chapel Hill and Carrboro, with quick access to I-40 by way of the New Hope Church Road exit, which keeps the drive short for guests staying in either town while the farm itself still reads as open countryside once you arrive. That short drive matters most for a large guest list, since it keeps travel time from becoming its own logistical problem on the wedding day.

We have worked an event at Union Grove, and the post-and-beam barn’s open interior, combined with the covered porch extending off one side, gives a DJ two connected but acoustically different spaces to work with: the barn holds sound well under its beamed ceiling for dancing, while the porch stays more open-air, so music carries out toward the pond pavilion rather than getting trapped indoors.
