The Space

The barn here was a working dairy barn before it was anything else, built to milk more than 200 head of cattle, and the conversion kept that scale intact rather than carving it into smaller rooms. Inside is 15,000 square feet of converted space with a 150-foot dirt floor running the length of the building and the original exposed barn beams still overhead, so the room reads as a real farm structure, not a barn-shaped building put up for events.

The Lloyd family has farmed this land since 1922, first in Hillsborough and then in Efland from 1929 on, with roots in the area that trace back through the Revolutionary War. North Carolina recognizes the property as a Century Farm, an accolade reserved for land with more than 100 years of continuous agricultural use, and the family still farms roughly 230 acres of grain and hay around the venue today.

Capacity & Layout

Typical wedding capacity is listed around 100 guests, though the space has hosted events with more than 300 people, so a couple planning a larger guest list is not automatically outgrowing the room, they are choosing how the space gets configured for their day. Ceremonies and receptions can both happen indoors on the dirt floor, or a couple can move the ceremony outside onto the surrounding farm property.

The bridal suite and bathrooms carry rustic wooden siding sourced from the farm itself, which keeps the getting-ready photos consistent with the rest of the property instead of looking like a separate, generic room bolted onto a barn. With vanity space and large mirrors in the suite, the wedding party has a real place to prepare rather than a converted stall.

Amenities

This is not a barn that only exists on weekends. The property hosts the Tarheel Antique Festival, a Halloween Haunted Barn, and the Battle of the Blues polo match between Duke and UNC Chapel Hill, and American Pickers has come through the collection four times looking for finds. That mix of activity means the venue is genuinely lived-in, which shows in details like the strings of lights and the tin roof overhead rather than feeling assembled for photos.

The property is owned by Ben Lloyd and run day to day by three of his children, Cheryl, Andy, and Craig, along with the family members who still farm the surrounding acreage. That family ownership tends to mean more flexibility on setup timing and layout than a venue managed by outside staff, since the same people who live on the property are the ones a couple is working with directly.

Location & Getting There

The farm sits about a mile from where Interstate 40 and 85 merge, and it is under 30 minutes from both Chapel Hill and Durham, with Raleigh-Durham International Airport as the nearest airport. That puts it within easy reach for a guest list pulling from the Triangle without asking anyone to drive deep into the countryside to find it.

We have worked an event on the dirt floor of the main barn, and the room’s scale changes how a DJ sets up: with 150 feet of open floor under a tin roof and exposed beams, sound has room to travel and needs to be aimed rather than just turned up, so speakers spread along the length of the barn cover the dance floor without overwhelming guests seated closer to the front.
