The Space
The Barn at Broadslab sits on a farm that has been in Jeremy Norris’s family since the 1840s, on land that carried the name Broadslab back in the 1700s, after the wooden slabs used to build a road through the marshy terrain here. Norris opened Broadslab Distillery on the same property in 2012, North Carolina’s first farm distillery since Prohibition, continuing a family history of moonshining that goes back generations.
The event barn itself is climate-controlled and includes a bridal suite, a groom’s room, a stone fireplace, and a grain-bin bar built into the reception space, alongside an outdoor patio with a fire pit for guests who want to step outside between dances. A pond-side area on the property serves as a separate ceremony site, distinct from the reception barn and the distillery buildings nearby.
Capacity & Layout
The venue seats up to 300 guests, with tables and chairs provided as part of the booking along with an arbor or cross and decorative barrels for the ceremony setup, which covers a good share of the rental list a couple would otherwise have to source separately. Saturday rentals run $4,000 to $4,500, with other weekdays priced lower for couples who have flexibility on their date.
Beyond the main barn, the adjacent 4.5-acre Nestled Pines property adds three more units: Woodside, an event space seated up to 50 with 1.5 bathrooms and a prep kitchen, plus two rental accommodations, Baccer Barn and Happy’s House. Woodside’s smaller scale makes it a workable option for a rehearsal dinner or a smaller family gathering separate from the main 300-guest event, without pulling that gathering off the property entirely.
Amenities
The barn comes equipped with a 14-foot projector screen, WiFi, a stage, and a sound system with a microphone and podium, meaning a fair amount of the AV needs for speeches and slideshows are already built in. Baccer Barn, a 1930s brick tobacco-curing barn converted into a 512-square-foot one-bedroom rental, gives the wedding party or out-of-town family a place to stay right on the property.
Woodside adds cornhole, darts and horseshoes for guests who want something to do outside the main event, and a prep kitchen supports whatever catering a couple brings in. Excellent on-site parking is available, and the venue operates seven days a week rather than being limited to weekends, giving couples more flexibility on which day to book than a venue that only opens for Saturday events.
Location & Getting There
The property sits just minutes from where Interstate 95 meets Interstate 40 in Johnston County, an easy interchange for guests driving in from Raleigh, Durham or points further along either highway. Raleigh-Durham International Airport is the nearest airport, keeping the travel distance for flying guests reasonable given how rural the setting itself feels.
We have worked this room, and the barn’s grain-bin bar and stone fireplace sit alongside enough open floor for a DJ setup and dance floor without the room ever feeling like it was carved out of a working farm building as an afterthought. The climate-controlled interior keeps sound consistent regardless of the weather outside, while the pond-side ceremony area stays acoustically separate from the reception space entirely.
