The Space
The barn at the center of WinMock was built in the mid-1920s as part of a dairy operation owned by S. Clay Williams, then president of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, and it grew into one of the largest dairies in North Carolina, home to one of the country’s best herds of Red Poll cattle. The dairy’s buildings, developed between 1924 and 1933, incorporated advanced barn design and mechanization for their era.
Sterling Events Group bought the property in 2010 and spent almost $3.5 million restoring three of the original buildings, the dairy barn, the bottling plant, and the granary, while keeping the wood plank walls and the barn’s distinctive Gothic-arched wood structural system exposed. That restoration is what earned the barn, officially listed as Win-Mock Farm Dairy, a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in December 2010.
Capacity & Layout
The Main Barn’s loft is the largest room, a 7,200-square-foot space under that exposed Gothic-arched timber structure, seating 300 for a plated reception, 250 with room left for a dance floor, or holding up to 500 in theater-style seating for a ceremony. The Davie and Forsyth rooms combine for 128 more, and five smaller Yadkin meeting rooms hold 26 to 40 guests each for rehearsal dinners or smaller gatherings.
Outdoors, the East Terrace holds 400 and the West Terrace 300, giving couples two separate outdoor footprints to choose between for a ceremony or cocktail hour, and The Granary offers a third indoor option at up to 160 guests for a mid-sized wedding that does not need the full Main Barn. That range, from a 26-person meeting room to a 500-person barn loft, covers most guest list sizes without renting space that goes unused.
Amenities
Tables and chairs are included, along with audio/visual capabilities, full bar service, and on-site security, all handled through Sterling Spaces rather than sourced separately by the couple. Catering runs either as an all-inclusive package with in-house partners or a la carte through an approved caterers list, giving couples a choice between one vendor handling everything or assembling their own team from an approved roster.
Parking is ample for both the Main Barn and the Granary, with nearby overflow parking and attendants for larger events, and the layout is built to be accessible throughout. The property sits directly on the Yadkin River, with Tanglewood Park and Bermuda Run Country Club within walking distance, so a wedding weekend here can include time at either without guests needing to drive.
Location & Getting There
WinMock sits less than 15 minutes from Winston-Salem, about 20 minutes from High Point, 30 minutes from Greensboro, and roughly an hour and fifteen minutes from Charlotte, close enough to a major airport for out-of-town guests while still reading as a rural riverside property once they arrive. The National Register listing the barn holds is one shared by less than 10 percent of all listed properties, a marker of how intact the original structure remains.
Inside the Main Barn loft, the exposed Gothic-arched wood beams and open 7,200-square-foot volume create a tall, hard-surfaced room where sound carries a long way, so a DJ setup here needs speaker placement built for that height and reach rather than a low-ceiling hotel ballroom rig. The smaller Yadkin rooms and The Granary hold sound much closer, better suited to a rehearsal dinner or a smaller reception.
