The Space
Before Talamore was a golf course, the land was the country estate assembled in 1904 by Henry Scott McLean, a descendant of Pennsylvania Governor Thomas McKean, who hired architect Horace Trumbauer to design an English Gothic mansion. That mansion survived the property’s decades as Pine Run Golf Club, then Bankers Country Club in the 1930s, then Oak Terrace Country Club, and still stands today as part of the clubhouse.
Robert Levy Jr. bought the land in 1993 and built an entirely new 18-hole course around the historic buildings, opening in July 1995 to a Golf Digest nod as one of the Best New Private Courses in the country that year. The Conservatory Ballroom is the marquee room, with a 1,500 square-foot marble dance floor, a grand staircase, and a 30-foot waterfall built into the space itself.
Capacity & Layout
The Conservatory seats up to 350 guests, which is the room to plan around for a large wedding, while the Magnolia Ballroom is the option for a tighter guest list, holding up to 150 under a cathedral ceiling with its own marble dance floor. A couple choosing between them is really choosing scale: the Conservatory’s grand staircase and skylights read as a bigger production, the Magnolia as an intimate one.
Cocktail hour has its own answer to that same question, since the Magnolia and the Garden Room are climate-controlled and open onto tropical gardens and patios, giving guests somewhere to stand outside without leaving the reception footprint. Ceremonies can run outdoors under the pergola in the gardens or indoors in either ballroom, so the layout can shift from garden ceremony to indoor reception without a long walk between them.
Amenities
In-house catering runs the food side of the day with all-inclusive packages, and a bridal suite is included in those packages rather than sourced separately. The golf course itself, 6,700 yards and par 71 with a sixth hole shaped around a 200-year-old sycamore known as the Eisenhower Tree, is available as backdrop for portraits even for guests who never set foot on the fairway.
Beyond the ballrooms, the property carries a resort-style pool complex with a Jacuzzi and kiddie pool, Har-Tru tennis courts, and a fitness center, amenities more associated with a golf resort than a banquet hall. That range is part of what earned Talamore a spot in The Knot’s Hall of Fame alongside its golf-course accolades, and it gives out-of-town wedding parties something to do beyond the reception itself.
Location & Getting There
We have played a reception here before, so we know the rooms hold up to a full dance floor crowd. The property sits on historic grounds in Ambler with gardens and lakes worked into the golf course itself, so guests driving in pass manicured fairways and swan-appointed water before ever reaching the clubhouse, a longer and more scenic approach than a typical banquet hall entrance.
Inside, the Conservatory’s marble floor and open staircase create a room with hard, reflective surfaces and real height from the skylights, which carries sound cleanly across a large dance floor without the room swallowing it. The Magnolia’s smaller footprint and cathedral ceiling behave a little differently, holding music tighter and more present for a crowd that does not need the Conservatory’s larger throw.
