The Space
Snee Farm Country Club sits on the 200-year-old Snee Farm Plantation, land Colonel Charles Pinckney purchased in 1754 and passed to his son Charles, a signer of the U.S. Constitution, in 1782. President George Washington stopped for breakfast here on May 2, 1791, during his presidential tour of South Carolina, a detail that gives the property a genuine place in the region’s history well before it became a country club. The golf course and clubhouse opened in 1972.
The 18-hole course was designed by George Cobb and plays 6,834 yards to a par of 72, and the club spent two decades hosting the Family Circle Cup, a women’s professional tennis tournament, on courts that are still part of the property today. The clubhouse itself has been newly renovated, and its ballroom sits within a working country club rather than a venue built only for events, which shapes what the day looks like from arrival to the reception.
Capacity & Layout
The ballroom measures 4,000 square feet and seats anywhere from 30 to 300 guests, a wide enough range that the same room can host an intimate dinner or a full wedding without feeling wrong-sized either way. Outdoor patios overlook the golf course and give a natural spot for cocktail hour before guests move indoors, and the outdoor ceremony lawn, also facing the golf course, keeps the vows and the reception within a short walk of each other rather than across the property.
With a board room also available, the club can host a rehearsal dinner or a smaller gathering separately from the main ballroom, which matters if a couple wants to spread events over more than one day without changing venues. Day-of coordination is available for an additional fee, worth considering for a couple who wants a point person managing the ballroom setup and timeline rather than handling it themselves alongside the club’s regular events staff.
Amenities
The clubhouse runs a full-service restaurant and bar, with catering built around the club’s exclusive caterer, Relish Distinctive Catering, so the food and the room come from the same team rather than needing an outside vendor coordinated separately. Beyond the ballroom, the club offers a fitness room and men’s and ladies’ locker rooms with sauna, and two newly renovated swimming pools, a family pool and an adult-only pool, for a couple who wants to extend a wedding weekend into something more resort-like for their guests.
Eighteen tennis courts, eight clay and ten hard surface, are lit for evening play, and as a ClubCorp property, Snee Farm gives members and their guests access to more than 200 private golf and country clubs worldwide, a detail worth mentioning to guests who play. Free parking is included with every event, which removes one more line item from the day’s logistics and one more thing for a couple to explain to out-of-town guests arriving by car.
Location & Getting There
Snee Farm sits in Mount Pleasant, about 12 minutes from downtown Charleston, and more than 15 hotels are within a minute of the property, which makes it easy to put together a guest room block without sending anyone far from the venue. That proximity to Charleston also means out-of-town guests can treat the wedding weekend as a chance to see the city without adding significant travel time around the event itself.
Between the ballroom’s four walls and the open outdoor patios and ceremony lawn overlooking the course, the club offers both an enclosed reception space and open-air options for the ceremony or cocktail hour. The ballroom’s finished interior, built for indoor events rather than a converted barn or tent, gives a DJ setup a controlled room to work with, one where sound stays contained rather than dispersing outward the way it would across the open golf course views just outside.
