The Space

Senate’s End is really three buildings under one name: The Hall, The Manor House, and 300 Senate, each with its own character but all built around the same site, a property that was once home to Sterling Garden Center before Dupre Percival, more than 30 years into a catering career, turned it into an event venue in 1989. The Hall is rustic brick with high ceilings, the kind of room that reads as event-scaled rather than converted from something smaller.

The property is tucked between a wooded ravine and the Congaree River, with views toward the historic Gervais Street Bridge, and two outdoor wedding gardens sit alongside the buildings for ceremonies or cocktail hour. Every building has its own outdoor deck or patio, so a couple is never stuck choosing one indoor room, they can spread a reception across an indoor space and an attached outdoor one instead.

Capacity & Layout

Individual spaces run from 25 to 400 guests, and when The Hall, The Manor House, and 300 Senate are all used together the property can hold up to 800, a scale that covers everything from a small ceremony in one of the gardens to a large reception spanning all three buildings at once. Most couples will land somewhere in the middle, using one building for the ceremony and reception and holding the others in reserve.

Because each building has its own deck or patio, layout decisions come down to which combination of indoor and outdoor space suits the guest count: The Hall’s brick and high ceilings for a larger seated dinner, The Manor House for something more intimate, or 300 Senate, which also hosts a regular Sunday brunch and jazz series, for a room that already carries some built-in atmosphere.

Amenities

Dupre Catering runs the food here exclusively, in-house, drawing on more than three decades in the catering business, so menu planning happens with the same team that manages the room rather than a separate outside vendor. A well-organized bridal suite gives the wedding party a place to get ready, and the venue is wheelchair accessible throughout.

Parking is described as ample, which matters on a property with three active buildings and two gardens that could each be hosting a different part of the day. Office hours run Monday through Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, closed Saturday and Sunday, worth knowing when a couple wants to reach the venue directly rather than through their planner during the week leading up to the wedding.

Location & Getting There

The property sits in the Vista, downtown Columbia’s arts and dining district, right where Senate Street meets the Congaree River, close enough to downtown hotels that out-of-town guests have an easy walk or short drive back after the reception. The ravine and riverfront setting give the outdoor gardens a wooded, sloping backdrop that is unusual for a venue this close to the center of the city.

We’ve DJ’d a reception here, and The Hall’s brick walls and high ceilings hold sound well for dancing without the hollow bounce of a fully enclosed modern room, while the outdoor gardens and each building’s deck need their own separate setup since sound does not carry cleanly between the indoor rooms and the riverside grounds.
