The Space
Ritchie Hill is an 1897 Queen Anne Victorian that stayed in the same family, the Ritchies, from 1906 until it was renovated into an event venue and opened in March 2015. Four generations lived in the house before it was nearly sold off in 2009 for major repairs; instead the family rebuilt it in 2014, keeping the period details and structural bones intact rather than replacing the character that makes the house recognizable from the street.
The property sits on more than four acres, with the front two acres inside Concord’s historic district and the back acreage outside it, giving the grounds a formal front and a looser, more private back half. Two large second-floor verandas and a wraparound porch close to 1,900 square feet wrap the house, so guests move easily between the interior rooms and the shaded porch space over the course of an evening.
Capacity & Layout
Ritchie Hill seats up to 150, a number that keeps the day feeling like it is happening inside a house rather than a hall, with a dining room, two formal parlor-style areas, and a library available so ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception can be split across different rooms instead of one open floor. Couples planning for closer to full capacity should expect guests distributed room to room rather than all facing one stage.
Both ceremony and reception can run indoors or outdoors, and the second-floor bridal suite has its own private bathroom, shower, and vanity, so the wedding party can get ready on site without competing for space downstream in the day. First-floor access and two handicap-accessible restrooms mean the layout works for guests who cannot manage stairs, a detail worth flagging early if the guest list includes older relatives.
Amenities
The house has a large, professional catering kitchen on site, which matters for timing: caterers can plate and hold food close to where it is served instead of running it in from a truck, and it gives the reception more flexibility on menu and service style. Parking is a dedicated lot along the back of the property, separate from the historic front lawn and porch.
Optional tenting is allowed on the grounds, useful if the wedding wants a defined outdoor footprint for weather backup without losing the option of an outdoor ceremony under the verandas or on the lawn. Between the fire pit area, the landscaped gardens, and the covered porches, there is more usable outdoor space here than at most historic house venues, and it stays shaded through most of the afternoon.
Location & Getting There
Ritchie Hill is about a mile from downtown Concord and roughly thirty minutes from Charlotte and Huntersville, close enough that out-of-town guests can stay downtown and still have an easy drive to the venue. We have worked a wedding here before, so the layout, the porch flow, and how sound moves between rooms is familiar to us going in.
Inside, the mix of a dining room, two formal areas, and a library means a DJ setup usually anchors in one central room with speakers positioned to carry into the adjoining spaces rather than one big open hall; the wood floors and plaster walls of a century-old house carry sound differently than a ballroom, so levels get set room by room rather than blasted from a single point.
