The Space
The Red Barn sits inside Tanglewood Park, a 1,200-acre public recreation park on the Yadkin River between Clemmons and Bermuda Run, and the barn itself is described locally as a Tanglewood landmark. The property’s history runs back further than the barn does: it was a private estate from the 1700s, and in 1921 William Neal Reynolds, brother of tobacco businessman R.J. Reynolds, bought it and grew the tract past 1,100 acres. Reynolds and his wife willed the estate to the citizens of Forsyth County in 1951, and it opened as a public park in 1954.
The Red Barn itself has been redesigned to modern standards while preserving its authentic barn exterior, so a couple gets the look of a working barn on the outside with updated interior features rather than an unrenovated structure. At 4,600 square feet, it functions as both ceremony and reception space within a single room, and its status as a recognized landmark within the park means it already has an identity of its own before a couple adds their own decor.
Capacity & Layout
The barn seats up to 250 guests, a solid mid-to-large capacity that covers most weddings without needing an additional tent or overflow space. Because both ceremony and reception happen in the same 4,600 square foot room, a couple should plan for a turnover, moving chairs or flipping the layout, rather than walking between two separate spaces during the day.
That single-room format simplifies vendor logistics, since everyone, caterer, DJ, and photographer, is working out of one footprint rather than coordinating a move between a ceremony room and a separate reception hall elsewhere on the property. We have worked this room before, so we know how the turnover between ceremony and reception actually plays out inside it.
Amenities
The barn includes ADA-accessible restrooms and on-site parking, practical basics that matter for a guest list that includes older relatives or anyone who needs level access. Because the Red Barn sits inside the much larger Tanglewood Park, a couple also gets the benefit of the park’s own history and grounds as a backdrop, including a championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. that hosted the 1974 PGA Championship, even if the golf course itself is not part of the barn rental.
The park’s origins as the Reynolds family estate, and its 1859 roots as an 18-room Manor House built by James Johnson before that, give the grounds a layered history that a couple can point to if guests ask about the setting beyond the barn walls.
Location & Getting There
Tanglewood Park’s main entrance is off US Route 158; GPS directions sometimes route drivers to a back entrance that is not set up for general access, so it is worth confirming the main entrance route with guests ahead of the wedding. The park sits between Clemmons and Bermuda Run along the Yadkin River, a quieter, more rural stretch outside Winston-Salem proper.
Inside the Red Barn, the authentic barn exterior and updated interior mean the room combines the hard surfaces and open volume typical of a barn conversion with modern finishes, so a DJ setup there is working within one continuous indoor space rather than splitting sound between a ceremony area and a separate reception room.
