The Space
The name Print Works Bistro comes from the Proximity Print Works Mill, a cotton mill that opened in 1912 as part of the Cone Mills textile operation the neighborhood grew up around; the restaurant itself opened in late 2007 alongside Proximity Hotel in Greensboro. The restaurant is run by Quaintance-Weaver Restaurants, founded by Dennis Quaintance and Mike Weaver in 1988, and the company became 100 percent employee owned through an ESOP in November 2016, which is part of why the place runs with the consistency of a business its own staff has a stake in.
The dining room is built around floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto gardens and natural surroundings, and the bar itself is made from salvaged, solid walnut trees that came down through storm or sickness rather than milled lumber bought for the job. In October 2008 the restaurant became the first in the hospitality industry to earn LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, and that commitment still shows in details like 100 rooftop solar panels that heat 60 percent of the hotel and restaurant’s water and geothermal cooling used for refrigeration.
Capacity & Layout
Print Works functions first as a full-service restaurant rather than a dedicated banquet venue, which shapes what kind of event fits here best: a rehearsal dinner, a welcome gathering, or a smaller private celebration built around the existing dining room and bar rather than a large seated reception with its own separate hall. Catering for events is arranged directly through Proximity Hotel’s inquiry process rather than a stand-alone events department.
The creekside terrace gives an outdoor option for an event that wants to spread guests between indoor and outdoor seating, and it is set up for actual comfort rather than just decoration, with lap blankets kept on hand for cooler evenings so the space stays usable well outside of peak summer. Between the dining room’s windows and the terrace, a couple has a genuine choice between an indoor and an outdoor setting for the same gathering.
Amenities
The bar carries more than 75 wines by the glass drawn from a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence list, alongside a full range of craft cocktails and beer, so a hosted bar here is working from a serious wine program rather than a standard banquet selection. The kitchen accommodates gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian requests as a matter of course, which takes the guesswork out of planning a menu for a mixed guest list.
Parking is plentiful, the property is wheelchair accessible, and the whole restaurant is non-smoking. The dress code runs smart casual, which sets expectations correctly for guests coming from an outdoor terrace event straight into the dining room, and the restaurant’s reputation, including a top 100 national ranking from OpenTable for both date nights and outdoor dining, reflects a kitchen used to running a polished night regardless of party size.
Location & Getting There
The restaurant sits about 9 miles from Piedmont Triad International Airport, within easy reach for out-of-town guests, and it is close to several area colleges, including UNC Greensboro, NC A&T, Elon, High Point University, and Guilford College, if a couple’s guest list includes alumni making a weekend of it.
We have worked an event here before, and because the dining room and terrace are both built for everyday restaurant service rather than an amplified dance floor, a DJ setup here works best kept modest, background music and toasts through the room’s existing acoustics rather than a full club-style system, with the terrace giving an open-air option if the event wants to move outside for part of the night.
