The Space

Porters Neck Country Club opened in 1991 north of downtown Wilmington along the Intracoastal Waterway, built around a Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course that stretches 7,132 yards at par 72 across six sets of tees. The course earned real recognition over the years, including a Golf Digest ranking as the number one coastal course in North Carolina and a spot on the magazine’s Top 500 list, and it hosted the North Carolina Mid-Amateur in 2004 and the North Carolina Senior Amateur in 2014. The course proved popular enough that a group of its own members later formed Eagle Point Golf Club across the road simply to get more tee times of their own.

McConnell Golf acquired the club in 2020 after selecting its own alliance to manage the property the year before, and the years leading into that sale added a new restaurant and lounge along with four pickleball courts and two additional tennis courts. The greens themselves were rebuilt with Champion G12 Bermuda turf, and McConnell’s bunker work restored the sand-dune look behind the par-5 15th green, so the grounds a couple sees today reflect fairly recent investment rather than an aging facility coasting on its reputation.

Capacity & Layout

The clubhouse holds events up to 200 guests, seated in a ballroom that looks out over the golf course grounds, which gives a reception the kind of open green view that a windowless hotel ballroom cannot match. For the ceremony itself, couples can choose the outdoor space with the course, the property’s willow trees, or the clubhouse itself as a backdrop, and a patio is available for cocktail hour between the two.

That sequence, outdoor ceremony, patio cocktail hour, ballroom reception, lets a couple move their guests through three distinct settings without leaving the property or needing a shuttle. The club’s Grill Room offers a smaller, more casual option for a rehearsal dinner or a welcome gathering the night before, separate from the main ballroom used for the wedding itself.

Amenities

The culinary team runs on customizable menus with scheduled tastings ahead of the event, which is standard for a private club kitchen used to a steady calendar of member dining as well as weddings. Beyond the ballroom and course, the property includes tennis courts, three swimming pools, and a fitness center, amenities that matter most if a couple is putting up out-of-town guests for a multi-day wedding weekend rather than a single evening.
