The Space
D.R. and Phyllis Mozeley built the farmhouse here in 1960 as their family home, and it stayed in the family for generations before their granddaughter, Megan M. Waters, founded Pleasant Grove Farm as a wedding venue in 2022. Her father, Steve Mozeley, had remodeled the house along the way, so what exists today is a genuinely multi-generational family property rather than land bought and built out purely for events.
The venue centers on two structures: a 4,500-square-foot post-and-beam barn with crystal chandeliers and elegant pavers, and the historic 4,000-square-foot house itself, remodeled by Steve Mozeley and now used for getting ready and smaller gatherings. Twenty acres of farmland surround both, with gardens, a pool, and open field areas giving a couple real room to spread a wedding day across more than one setting.
Capacity & Layout
The barn seats 200 and holds up to 250 standing for a reception, with cocktail-style events pushing past 250 when chairs come out entirely, while the house itself caps at 50 guests, which makes it suited to a rehearsal dinner or a small ceremony rather than the main event. A couple planning a large wedding will run the ceremony and reception through the barn, using the house mainly for the bridal suite and getting-ready time.
Ceremonies can be set in the barn itself, out in the open fields, or at the house, with the barn’s doors opening to create a natural backdrop when the ceremony happens just outside it. Twenty-five folding tables and four cocktail tables are included with rental, along with 200 white folding chairs and 200 black chiavari chairs, which covers most of the seating and table needs without the couple sourcing rentals separately.
Amenities
The barn is climate-controlled with HVAC, which matters in the Carolinas across most of the year, and it includes handicap-accessible restrooms and parking. A gravel lot holds 200 cars on site, with shuttle service available for larger weddings, and a projector and screen are available for a slideshow or a toast played over speakers.
Full-service catering is available in-house, and outside caterers are permitted with an approved Certificate of Insurance, while the bar runs on a full ABC liquor license, meaning all alcohol has to be purchased through the venue and served by its trained bartenders rather than brought in independently. Wi-Fi covers the barn, and a one-hour ceremony rehearsal is included, typically scheduled 30 days out.
Location & Getting There
Pleasant Grove Farm sits eight miles from uptown Charlotte and fourteen miles from Charlotte Douglas Airport, close enough that out-of-town guests have a short drive from the airport while still landing somewhere that feels like open farmland once they arrive. The venue runs year-round on a daily basis with a standard 10am to 10pm rental window, giving a full day for setup, the event itself, and breakdown.
If weather turns, the venue’s rain plan flips the ceremony into the barn or resets it Oscar-style with guests already seated at their tables, so the barn functions as both the primary reception room and the fallback ceremony space. With its climate control, hard pavers, and open post-and-beam construction, the barn calls for a DJ setup that accounts for a taller, harder-surfaced room, different from the softer sound of an open-field ceremony outside it.
