The Space
Omni Bedford Springs Resort & Spa is a historic 216-room property originally established around natural mineral springs discovered in 1796 in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Mountains. Doctor John Anderson purchased the land in 1798 and began building bathing facilities for his patients, launching a tradition that continued for centuries. By 1809, the site had expanded to three buildings. In 1824, Bedford Springs was called the "Montpelier of America." The resort served as a Naval Training School during World War II, closed in 1986, suffered severe flood damage in 1988, and was meticulously restored beginning in 1998, reopening in 2007 under Omni Hotels ownership.
The 2,200-acre property encompasses extensive indoor and outdoor venues. The Colonnade Ballroom spans 4,802 square feet with capacity for 220 seated ceremonies and 316 standing for receptions. Constitution Hall offers 1,701 square feet. Additional ceremony and reception spaces include the Wedding Grotto near a spring-fed waterfall, The Mill (4,014 sq ft indoor with outdoor lawn access), The Veranda, and Spa Lawn. Nine total wedding venues allow couples to hold ceremonies and receptions in different locations or provide backup plans if weather shifts.
Capacity & Layout
The resort accommodates 220 seated for ceremonies with various reception configurations ranging from intimate to large-scale. The Colonnade Ballroom and The Mill are the primary reception spaces with substantial capacity. Outdoor ceremony options include the Wedding Grotto, Spa Lawn, or lawn areas adjacent to The Mill for couples preferring natural settings. Meeting space totals 20,000 square feet across 22 rooms, with 36,000 square feet of outdoor space available for alfresco gatherings.
On-site accommodation for 216 guests plus 4 suites means your entire wedding party can stay together on the property. The full-service Springs Eternal Spa spans 30,000 square feet and features indoor spring-fed and outdoor pools with water sourced from the historic mineral springs.
Amenities
Seven dining outlets include the Crystal Room, 1796 Room, and Frontier Tavern. The historic Stone House contains a fully restored colonial-style tavern with original massive stone walls and beams dating to 1806. Bar service and multiple dining venues accommodate receptions of any scale and accommodate diverse culinary preferences. Valet and self-parking are included in the resort fee. The resort is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, placing it among the nation’s distinguished heritage properties. Accessible rooms are available for guests with mobility needs.
The property was named #1 Golf Resort Course in Pennsylvania by Golfweek magazine. The 18-hole championship course, originally designed in 1895 by Spencer Oldham, was redesigned by A.W. Tillinghast in 1912 and again by Donald Ross in 1923, bringing it to 18 holes. Travel & Leisure named it a World’s Best Awards 2024 Winner, reflecting its status as a premier destination.
Location & Getting There
Omni Bedford Springs sits in rural Pennsylvania near Bedford, about 90 minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1984 along with the hotel, golf course, and spring areas. Seven current, former, or future U.S. presidents have visited Bedford Springs, including President James Buchanan, who used the resort as his Summer White House from 1857 to 1861. The first transatlantic cable sent from England to the United States was received by President Buchanan at the hotel on August 12, 1858, an event of historical significance.
The Colonnade Ballroom’s enclosed, high-ceilinged design provides excellent acoustics for DJ music and speeches; sound carries evenly throughout the space and bounces off the colonnade structure for consistent coverage. Outdoor venues like the Spa Lawn require amplified sound but offer scenic backdrops, and the Wedding Grotto’s proximity to water provides natural acoustic interest and creates an immersive sensory experience for ceremonies.
