The Space
The Ocean Point Pool is one of five pool complexes spread across Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort, sitting directly across from OP Bar & Grille and within view of the Ocean Point Golf Links. The pool was recently renovated and updated in spring 2025, so the deck and surrounding space a couple would use for a reception are current rather than dated.
The complex includes two pools of its own, one of which is set aside for babies, along with poolside seating that opens directly onto ocean and beachfront views. Rather than an enclosed banquet room, this is an open air poolside setting, with the golf course on one side and the beach close by, giving the space a resort feel distinct from an indoor ballroom.
Capacity & Layout
Event capacity at the Ocean Point Pool runs from roughly 150 to 200 guests for a gathering held around the deck and adjacent grass areas, while the pool itself carries a separate maximum occupancy of 30 people at a time in the water, per the resort’s own safety guidelines. That distinction matters for planning: the reception crowd can be sized toward the higher number, while the pool remains a smaller, supervised feature rather than the main event space.
The layout puts the family pool and the baby pool near each other, with grass areas surrounding the deck for tables, a dance floor, or a ceremony setup. Because the space sits oceanfront, sightlines from the deck run straight out toward the water rather than being boxed in by walls or landscaping.
Amenities
OP Bar & Grille sits directly across from the pool, giving a couple a built-in food and drink option close to the reception space without needing to bring in a separate catering setup from off site. The Ocean Point Golf Links, built in 1964, is visible from the pool area as well, adding to the resort backdrop.
As one of five pool complexes at Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort, which was established in 1965, Ocean Point Pool benefits from being part of a larger, established resort operation rather than a standalone rental space, meaning the surrounding infrastructure, from golf to dining, has been running for decades.
Location & Getting There
Fripp Island sits about 20 miles from Beaufort, South Carolina, reached by a half mile access bridge built in 1963 that connects the island to the mainland, so guests are crossing water to get to the resort itself before ever reaching the pool. Charleston International Airport is roughly an hour and a half away, a manageable distance for out of town guests flying in for the weekend. That drive across the bridge sets the tone for an island wedding from the moment guests arrive, and access to the resort’s pools generally requires a club card, a detail worth confirming ahead of the day so vendors and guests alike can move freely between the property’s amenities.
For a DJ, an open air poolside setting like this means the sound system has to be fully self contained, with no walls or ceiling to hold the volume, so equipment placement and speaker coverage matter more here than they would in an enclosed room, especially with the ocean and open grass areas pulling sound outward rather than containing it.
