The Space

Ocean City Yacht Club has been part of the bay since 1901, incorporated on June 27 of that year with the stated purpose of promoting yachting on Great Egg Harbor Bay. After starting at three different locations around Ocean City, the club settled into its present site on the bay in 1912 and has stayed there since, making it the oldest continuously operating yacht club in Cape May County.

The clubhouse pairs a dining room with hardwood floors and panoramic windows looking straight out over the bay with waterfront decks that extend the space outdoors. The 2023 season marked the club’s 122nd year in continuous existence, a run that means the building and its traditions have had over a century to settle in. Beyond weddings, the club is still an active sailing club, running programs across boat classes from Optimus Prams, Sunfish, and Lasers to Club 420s, Lightnings, J22s, and offshore sailboats, and members gather for sunset meals on the bay, Saturday night theme parties, bridge, golf, and fishing throughout the year.

Capacity & Layout

The indoor dining room seats up to 220 guests, with additional space available under outdoor tents for a larger gathering, so a couple can plan the reception seating indoors and still expand for cocktail hour or a dance floor outside without exceeding what the room can hold. The waterfront deck overlooking the bay works well as a ceremony site, putting the water directly behind the couple during the ceremony itself.

A dressing room is available on site for the bridal party, and the venue is wheelchair accessible throughout, which matters given how much of the event moves between the indoor dining room and the outdoor decks and waterfront areas over the course of a day. Catering comes through Nobil by the Bay, serving coastal cuisine that fits the club’s setting directly on the water.

Amenities

A poolside bar and grill gives the property another gathering spot beyond the main dining room and decks, useful for cocktail hour or a more casual portion of the day. Members also have access to a private beach and pool, amenities that round out the club beyond its role as an event space.

The club’s history as a working yacht club means the grounds were built around boats and water access first, with a boat house, wharfs, and club buildings called out specifically in its original 1901 Articles of Incorporation. That working marina character is still visible today alongside the dining and event spaces.
