Oakhaven traces back to 1929, when the Dibrell family bought the property as a country getaway and hobby farm, a family with roots in the Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company, founded in Danville, Virginia in 1873. The land stayed a working farm producing tobacco, dairy cattle, and beef cattle for generations before any of it opened to weddings, and that working history is still visible across the 1400 to 1500 acres.

The wedding side of the property started small: the original barn opened for weddings in 2007 with a dirt floor and no air conditioning, hosting just three weddings that first year. By 2022 that number had grown to 40 or more weddings annually, and the venue now centers on the Grand Dutch Barn, with the dairy barn and its silos still standing as a reminder of what the space looked like before it hosted receptions.

Capacity & Layout

Oakhaven seats 225 guests indoors and can hold 250 outdoors, capacity that comes from the Grand Dutch Barn plus the open ceremony sites scattered across the property, including a spot under an oak tree and the manor gardens with their gazebo. That range means a couple can plan a full seated dinner inside the barn and still move the ceremony and cocktail hour outside without running short on room either way.

Getting ready happens off site from the reception in a real sense: the Honeymoon Cottage and the Manor House both include dedicated space for the bridal party, and with four separate homes on the property, the wedding party and out of town guests can be housed there through the whole weekend rather than just the day of. A fire pit area with its own outdoor kitchen gives the rehearsal dinner a separate space entirely from the wedding day itself.
