The Space
In Charlotte’s South End, The Suffolk Punch brewery converted a warehouse next door into an event space in June 2019, naming it Norfolk Hall and partnering with QC Catering to run it. The 7,500-square-foot venue kept the warehouse’s rustic bones: reclaimed wood, corrugated metal, and barn doors, rather than covering them over, and sits directly adjacent to The Suffolk Punch’s main building, a brewery, culinary cafe, taphouse, and coffee bar.
The venue is split into two large rooms, the Fell Room and the Dales Room, connected by a common area and an outdoor terrace with views of the Light Rail and the Rail Trail. A large L-shaped bar runs along the front and wraps around the back half of the space, and barn doors can close to separate the two rooms or open to combine them, all set inside the same reclaimed-wood-and-corrugated-metal shell as the rest of the warehouse.
Capacity & Layout
The Fell Room seats 160 or holds 400 standing, and the Dales Room seats 85 or holds 200 standing, for a combined total of 250 seated or 600 standing when both rooms are booked together. That range covers everything from a mid-size wedding using one room to a large reception that fills the entire warehouse.
Because barn doors can close off the Dales Room from the Fell Room, a couple can book just one room for a smaller guest list or open both for a bigger one, and the same L-shaped bar serves either configuration since it spans the front of the building and wraps into the back half regardless of how the doors are set.
Amenities
QC Catering has an exclusive partnership with Norfolk Hall, so catering runs through them for every event booked in the space, while beverages are provided through the adjacent Suffolk Punch brewery. Ample parking is available, along with street parking and a light rail station nearby, and the venue is wheelchair accessible.
The outdoor terrace is available for a ceremony or a cocktail hour, with views of the Light Rail and Rail Trail giving it a distinctly South End backdrop rather than a garden or waterfront setting. Being next door to The Suffolk Punch’s main building also means a brewery, cafe, taphouse, and coffee bar are literally steps away for anyone who wants to wander over before or after the event.
Location & Getting There
Norfolk Hall sits on Griffith Street in Charlotte’s historic South End neighborhood, next to the New Bern light rail station, which makes it one of the more transit-accessible venues in the city for guests who would rather not drive. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the nearest airport for out-of-town guests flying in.
Indoors, the warehouse’s rustic surfaces, reclaimed wood, corrugated metal, and barn doors, give the rooms a harder, more reflective sound than a carpeted ballroom, which a DJ typically accounts for, while the barn doors between the Fell Room and the Dales Room, or the option to move out to the covered terrace, give a straightforward way to contain or extend the reach of the music depending on which rooms are opened up for the day.
