The Space

It opened in the early 1960s as the Faculty Club, funded by an $800,000 gift from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation arranged by Richard Reynolds, son of the R.J. Reynolds tobacco heir. By the mid-1990s the club widened membership from faculty and staff to include alumni, and the name changed to reflect that broader base.

The Lutz Ballroom is the smaller option: 200 standing, 130 seated, or 100 if the club sets it up buffet-style with a service line eating into the floor.

Beyond the two main rooms, the club also has the University Room with views of the golf course, the smaller State Room, and the Wolfpack Club Conference Room, each priced separately for rental, letting a couple scale a rehearsal dinner or a smaller wedding down without filling the Ballroom. On top of banquet space, the club runs a full-service restaurant with formal, casual, and patio seating, a Sunday brunch, and weekday lunch buffets, so a rehearsal dinner or a next-day brunch can happen in the same building as the wedding itself. The club’s recreational side is unusually large for a wedding venue: three swimming pools with a 40-foot water slide, a diving board, and a saltwater lap pool, nine new clay tennis courts that opened in 2023, a par-3 six-hole golf course open daily with no tee times required, and a fitness center open from 5am to midnight with a steam room and free weights.
