The Space
Beech Mountain Club is a private country club established in 1969 on a 1,314-acre property in Beech Mountain, North Carolina, at an elevation of 5,506 feet, making it one of the highest incorporated towns east of the Mississippi River. The club began with an 18-hole golf course designed by Willard C. Byrd, ASGCA, with the first 9 holes completed in 1969 and the remaining 9 opening in 1971. The original facilities included an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool, 4 tennis courts, a bathhouse, and a gazebo, built in 1969 by Carolina Caribbean Corporation. The clubhouse features a main dining room, a gallery, and pub-level banquet rooms, all available for events.
The mountain setting at 5,506 feet elevation creates a cool climate where summer temperatures rarely exceed 80 degrees, offering a refreshing alternative to lower-elevation venues, especially for warm-season events. The property offers expansive views of mountain ranges spanning North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Capacity & Layout
The clubhouse dining room accommodates 150 guests for a plated dinner or serves as flexible space for other configurations. The building can hold up to 196 people for events other than sit-down dinners. A separate gallery holds up to 40 guests and can be used for ceremony, cocktails, or smaller celebrations alongside the main dining room. The 18-hole golf course at 6,183 yards can be incorporated into your event timing or as an activity for guests.
Multiple indoor and outdoor spaces at the club allow couples to design their day across the facility, from ceremony to reception to outdoor activities.
Amenities
The club includes a full-service restaurant and bar with dining options, a fitness center, pickleball courts in addition to the tennis courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and recreation programs. Parking is available on the grounds. The venue is private and exclusive, limited to club members and their guests. Contact with the club’s events coordinator, Brian Barnes ext. 103), allows couples to explore membership and event options, as the venue is not open to the general public but may accommodate special events for member-referred guests.
The club’s multiple indoor and outdoor spaces offer configuration flexibility, though specifics on which areas allow DJ equipment, sound system placement, and amplified music should be confirmed directly with the club’s events team.
Location & Getting There
Beech Mountain sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Avery County in far western North Carolina, roughly 2 hours northeast of Charlotte and about 1.5 hours from Asheville. The town itself is small and private, with limited commercial development, so most guests will be driving from surrounding areas. The elevation creates natural landscape drama with multi-state mountain views, and summer temperatures make it a comfortable setting even for outdoor events that might be uncomfortable at lower elevations during hot weather. The high altitude and cool climate are among the primary attractions of the venue.
The clubhouse’s dining room features traditional ceiling heights and interior walls that will carry sound appropriately for a DJ setup, while the outdoor spaces at elevation experience wind and open-air acoustics that would require careful speaker placement and potentially higher volume levels to project sound evenly for dancing and celebration.
