The Space

Horses graze within view of the ceremony dock at Morris Peaceland Farm, a working 13-acre property in Wake County that Robbie and Kathi Morris bought in the summer of 1999 under its original name, Peaceland. After years of hosting their own family gatherings there, the couple began a full renovation on June 29, 2016, dismantling a vintage 1950s barn and using its doors, walls and weathered wood throughout the new construction rather than building from new lumber.

The result is an open-air barn built by hand, with bride and groom rooms, restrooms, a kitchen and a bar all clad in that same naturally weathered wood, plus exposed beams, twinkle lights and white drapes overhead. The venue opened for weddings in 2017, and the property sits on 13 acres completely surrounded by woods, giving the barn a genuinely rural, screened-in feeling despite being only seven miles from downtown Raleigh.

Capacity & Layout

The property seats up to 220 guests, comfortably mid-sized, and spreads the day across seven distinct event spaces rather than one room doing double duty. A pond with a fountain and a ceremony dock handles the vows outdoors, while an outdoor pavilion is set aside specifically for cocktail hour, so guests physically move between three or more settings over the course of the day rather than sitting in one spot throughout.

The open-air barn itself is the reception room, weathered wood on every surface and exposed beams overhead, and having bride and groom rooms built into the same structure means the wedding party never has to leave the property to get ready or reset between the ceremony and reception. With seven spaces total, a couple has room to stagger the day’s pacing rather than rushing one turnover.

Amenities

An in-house bar is available, and outside alcohol is permitted as well, giving a couple flexibility on how they handle drinks rather than being locked into one vendor. Complimentary parking, wireless internet throughout the property, and wheelchair accessibility round out the practical side, and the venue is pet friendly, worth knowing for anyone who wants a dog in the ceremony photos.

Setup and cleanup are both included in the booking, which takes two line items off a couple’s separate vendor list, and outside vendors are allowed generally, so the farm does not lock a couple into a closed vendor roster. Peak season runs March through November, which lines up with when the grounds, gardens and grazing horses are at their best for photos.

Location & Getting There

The farm sits seven miles from downtown Raleigh and less than 30 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport, close enough for a genuinely rural feel without asking guests to drive deep into the country. That combination, wooded and quiet but still a short trip from the city and the airport, is much of what makes the property work for both local and out-of-town guests.

We have worked a reception in the open-air barn here, and the exposed beams and weathered wood surfaces give the room a warmer, more absorbed sound than a hard-walled hall, while the barn’s open-air design means a DJ setup has to account for airflow and the pond and pavilion just outside pulling some of that sound outdoors during cocktail hour.
