The Space
Midnight Mulligan operated in Charlotte’s Wesley Heights neighborhood from December 2021 until it closed around the start of January 2024, and for that stretch it ran out of a fully renovated 10,000 square foot building that had previously housed Fleming Labs, a chemical supplier. The renovation kept the industrial bones of the original building while building in a wrap-around bar with more than 30 chairs, each fitted with hooks, USB ports, and standard power outlets.
We worked an event in the space before it closed, and the building’s two halves, an indoor taproom and a 3,000 square foot outdoor patio, gave it real range for a wedding-adjacent event: string lights and Charlotte skyline views outside, and a large windowed view into the working brewing operation behind the main bar inside, so the space itself did double duty as both venue and backdrop.
Capacity & Layout
A private event room with a fireplace and direct access to the patio was the space most suited to hosting a private party, separate from the main taproom floor where the general public would have been seated. No published seated or standing capacity figure is available for that private room specifically, so the 10,000 square foot total building size and the 3,000 square foot patio are the two concrete numbers to plan around rather than a fixed guest count.
The patio and the private room connected directly, which meant a group renting the private room was not fully cut off from the outdoor space, guests could move between the fireplace and the skyline view without cutting back through the main bar floor. That layout, indoor event room feeding straight onto an outdoor patio, is the structural detail worth noting since the building itself no longer operates.
Amenities
Sixteen taps and a full bar with beer and spiked seltzer options ran the drink side of the venue, while a kitchen led by executive chef Jzhanece Frierson, under restaurateur Kevin Parker, handled elevated pub fare, including a brunch service added in mid-2022 that expanded to Saturdays after what the brewery described as an overwhelming customer response.
A game room with foosball, shuffleboard, darts, and a ring game gave the space an informal, social layer beyond the bar and patio, useful filler for guests during down time at a longer event. Large parking was available immediately adjacent to the building, and the space was wheelchair accessible throughout.
Location & Getting There
The building sat in the Wesley Heights neighborhood, close enough to central Charlotte for the skyline views from its patio to be a real backdrop rather than a distant silhouette, and it shared a wall with neighboring Summit Seltzer, with direct access allowing patrons to move products between the two spaces during the years both were open.
Since Midnight Mulligan closed in early 2024, none of this space is bookable now, and any couple who remembers it, or found this page while asking about it, should treat this as a record of what the room offered rather than a current option; while it operated, the concrete-and-glass taproom carried sound with some hard-surface bounce, while the open patio outside handled a DJ setup the way any open-air space does, needing coverage aimed rather than reflected.
