The Space
The land at Mayberry Meadows has been farmed since 1965, when Robert and Betty Branscome bought 70 acres with their daughter Sandra Lee and worked it for more than three decades. Sandra Lee’s daughter Gina Barnes and son-in-law Tony took over as third-generation stewards, and in 2019 they opened the working farm to weddings, keeping the barns, fields and creeks that had shaped the property long before any couple said their vows here.
Ceremonies happen outdoors under an old oak tree beneath a handcrafted arch, with the reception moving to a pavilion built around a barn. Large garage-style windows line the pavilion, so the room can be opened wide on a clear evening or closed up if the weather turns, and the barn setting keeps the working-farm character present once the tables and dance floor are in place for the night.
Capacity & Layout
The ceremony lawn seats about 120 people on handcrafted benches, and the reception side scales from roughly 75 guests for a smaller package up to 200 with a small dance floor worked into the layout. That range matters for planning: a couple expecting a tighter guest list gets an intimate pavilion footprint, while a 200-person wedding needs the dance floor kept modest to leave room for seating.
Parking holds more than 100 cars, so guest arrival is not a bottleneck even on a busy Saturday. Two women’s and two men’s restrooms sit in the pavilion area, reached by a handicap-accessible ramp, which keeps the facilities close to the reception rather than off across the property.
Amenities
Couples get a bridal suite and a separate groom’s suite for getting ready on site, so the wedding party is not shuttling between a hotel and the farm on the morning of the event. Both suites sit close enough to the ceremony and reception areas that photos and final touch-ups do not eat into cocktail hour. Day-of coordination comes included with every wedding package, which puts someone from the venue in charge of keeping the schedule moving rather than leaving it to a family member.
There is no vendor fee for bringing in an outside caterer, florist or rental company, though any vendor pouring alcohol at the reception must be licensed and insured, and preferred caterers are available for couples who would rather not search on their own. Music has to wrap by 10:30pm so that vendors and equipment can be off the property by 11pm, unless a couple purchases extra time, which is worth building into the timeline early. Dogs are welcome at the ceremony and for photos with advance approval, kept on a leash and handled by someone other than the couple.
Location & Getting There
Mayberry Meadows sits on 65 acres at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside Mount Airy, with creeks running through the property. That setting gives a couple’s photographer real depth to work with, rolling land and mountain backdrops rather than a flat lawn, and it means most guests are driving out into farm country rather than staying downtown.
We have worked this room and the setup runs cleanly: the pavilion’s garage-style windows let a DJ close the space up for controlled sound on a windy night or open it toward the fields when the weather cooperates, and the barn structure gives enough coverage that equipment and dancing both stay protected from the elements.
