The Space
This banquet room sits inside a working fire station, Cornwells Fire Company Station No. 1, the oldest 100% volunteer fire company in Bensalem Township, founded in 1915. The current station building went up in 1950, built by the membership itself at 2049 Bristol Pike, replacing an original 1915 firehouse a few blocks away that had housed the pumper and horses. That history means the building was raised by the volunteers who served in it, not by an outside developer, and the banquet room inside carries that community-built origin.
Cornwells Fire Company is now part of the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department, formed in June 2024 when six legacy fire companies consolidated, but the Maltese Room inside the station continues to operate as a rentable event space managed by O’Neill’s Catering, a family-owned business running for more than 30 years.
Capacity & Layout
The Maltese Room totals 6,499 square feet and seats up to 275 guests, sizing that puts it in range for a full wedding reception rather than a small private gathering. A minimum of 70 guests applies to some packages, worth checking against a guest list before booking a date, since a smaller wedding may fall under that threshold depending on the package chosen.
A large dance floor is built into the room, giving the space a defined center for dinner and dancing rather than requiring a couple to carve that layout out of an undivided hall. At 6,499 square feet for up to 275 guests, the room allows enough open floor beyond seating for that dance floor to stay a genuine focal point rather than a squeezed-in afterthought.
Amenities
O’Neill’s Catering runs full-service catering with customizable menus as part of the rental, handling food for weddings, showers, corporate meetings, and other events booked into the space. State-of-the-art AV facilities are available, useful for a slideshow, speeches, or a ceremony microphone setup, and having that AV infrastructure already built into the room saves a couple from renting a separate sound and projection package.
Ample parking is available on site, a practical detail for a firehouse venue where the lot also serves the working fire company day to day. The room is wheelchair accessible, and because it operates as a firehouse banquet hall rather than a purpose-built wedding venue, the amenities lean functional, parking, AV, and catering, rather than decorative extras. That functional layout gives a couple a blank, adaptable room to decorate rather than a space with a built-in theme to work around.
Location & Getting There
The Maltese Room sits within the Cornwells Fire Company station in Bensalem, PA, a straightforward suburban location without the drive or ferry logistics of a waterfront or rural property. That firehouse setting gives the venue a community, local-history character distinct from a hotel ballroom or a built-for-weddings estate.
With the room fully enclosed at 6,499 square feet and a large dance floor already built into the layout, a DJ working a reception here is set up in a defined indoor hall with a clear focal point for sound and lighting, rather than negotiating an open, undivided space or splitting time between separate ceremony and reception rooms.
