The Space
Before it was a wedding venue, this was Malachi Farms and Stables, bought by the parents of current owner Emily to pursue a shared love of horses. The farm became a gathering place for family and friends over the years, and Emily, married to Todd Hall, eventually built that gathering spirit into a formal event venue, forming Malachi Meadows LLC in August 2019.
The indoor hall totals 4,800 square feet, with more than 3,100 square feet of open event space and a double staircase as its centerpiece, set against neutral decor that leaves room for a couple’s own styling choices. Outdoors, a garden area centers on a 15-foot brick fireplace, and a covered pavilion with chandeliers and lighting, completed before an April 2021 wedding, adds a second outdoor option. That fireplace, tall enough to anchor the whole garden view, gives a ceremony backdrop that photographs well in daylight and still holds presence once the sun goes down.
Capacity & Layout
The venue accommodates up to 200 guests, split across the indoor ballroom with its double staircase, the outdoor garden with the brick fireplace, and the covered pavilion. A stone-slab patio handles cocktail hour, giving the day a clear progression from ceremony space to cocktail patio to reception hall without doubling up any single room.
Two suites support getting ready before the ceremony, a bridal suite upstairs with a balcony and lounge area, and a groom’s suite downstairs with its own private entrance, so the wedding party can prepare separately without crossing paths. A large catering prep area and an indoor bar sit adjacent to the ballroom, keeping food and drink service close to the main reception space, so catering staff aren’t running trays across the property between a detached kitchen and the tables.
Amenities
Couples choose their caterer from a preferred vendor list rather than bringing in any outside kitchen, and the venue allows BYOB with the required ABC permit alongside its own indoor bar. Plentiful onsite parking is included, with valet parking available for an additional fee if a couple wants that added on the wedding day, a practical add-on given the property’s rural, farm-based setting and the number of guests likely driving in.
The indoor facility and its guest restrooms are wheelchair accessible, and the covered pavilion with its chandeliers gives an outdoor ceremony or cocktail option some protection from weather without moving the event fully indoors. Between the brick fireplace in the garden, the pavilion, and the patio, the property offers three distinct outdoor settings in addition to the indoor ballroom.
Location & Getting There
The property sits just 15 minutes from downtown Wilmington, NC, close enough for a couple to base their wedding weekend in the city while hosting the ceremony and reception out on the farm. That distance keeps Malachi Meadows convenient for Wilmington-based guests without losing the rural, horse-farm setting that shaped the venue’s origins.
With the ceremony able to run in the outdoor garden by the fireplace, on the covered pavilion, or in the indoor ballroom, a DJ has to plan for both open-air and enclosed setups on the same wedding day. The indoor ballroom, with its double staircase and defined 3,100-square-foot open area, holds sound the way an enclosed hall does, while the outdoor fireplace and pavilion settings call for weather-aware speaker placement.
