The Space
Magnolia Hill Chapel is a historic white chapel originally built in 1780 by Peter Doub as Doub’s United Methodist Chapel and relocated to its current Pfafftown location in 1909. The structure has been meticulously renovated while preserving its vintage 1900s charm, giving it the presence of genuine historical architecture paired with modern amenities. The chapel is an active non-denominational Christian place of worship that hosts regular Sunday services, so the space carries authentic spiritual and architectural character. The chapel itself features stained glass windows, an acoustic shell designed to enhance vocal clarity, and seating for up to 150 guests. Separate getting-ready suites with large arched windows and sparkling chandeliers are available for brides, grooms, or wedding parties.
The facility includes the Great Room in the main chapel building, ideal for rehearsal dinners or intimate receptions, and the Johannes Doub Suite, a former fellowship hall now spanning 2,800 square feet for larger receptions and gatherings. A warming kitchen (800 square feet) is dedicated to food preparation and serving. An outdoor ceremony space and garden area sit on the two-acre countryside property, providing options for al fresco vows or garden photos.
Capacity & Layout
The chapel accommodates 150 guests seated for the ceremony. The Johannes Doub Suite can host larger receptions, and the Great Room works for more intimate gatherings. The warming kitchen is on-site for food service, and the property’s two acres provide outdoor ceremony, garden, and lawn spaces. The layout flows naturally from ceremony space to reception areas without requiring guests to leave the property. Wheelchair accessibility is standard throughout, with no steps at the main entrance and ADA-compliant facilities.
Amenities
The warming kitchen (800 square feet) provides food preparation capability, though full commercial catering coordination happens between you and your chosen vendor. The chapel includes stained glass windows and an acoustic shell that enhance the beauty of vocal performances and the clarity of spoken vows. Separate bridal and groom’s suites with arched windows and chandeliers are available for getting ready. The two-acre property includes manicured gardens, lawn ceremony areas, and a garden space for intimate moments. Peak event season runs March through November, though other months can be booked. The non-denominational status means flexibility for various ceremony styles and traditions.
Location & Getting There
Pfafftown is in Forsyth County, minutes west of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The countryside setting provides a rural, peaceful backdrop with mature trees and open land, while the proximity to Winston-Salem means your guests can find hotels, restaurants, and amenities nearby. Greensboro and Charlotte airports are both within an hour’s drive. The setting feels genuinely removed from urban bustle while remaining accessible for traveling guests.
The chapel’s acoustic shell is specifically designed to enhance vocal clarity and create even sound distribution for ceremonies. The stained glass windows and high ceiling create a naturally resonant space, which means a DJ setup for receptions in the adjacent Great Room or Johannes Doub Suite should account for the open-ceiling acoustics of older buildings. Coordinate with the venue on sound placement to ensure the dance floor and distant corners receive equal coverage without unwanted echoes off the tall ceilings and hard surfaces.
