The Space
A 70-mile panoramic view is the reason Longleaf Vineyard exists as a wedding venue at all: Mount Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain, and Mount Pisgah are all visible from the grounds, and after sunset you can see Asheville’s city lights in the distance. Wendy and Brian Knowles built the vineyard in 2017 out of their own interest in winemaking, on a plateau ranked among the largest in Western North Carolina.
The vineyard itself grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Viognier, Sangiovese, Pinot Gris, and Peach Chardonnay, and the working rows are part of the backdrop rather than a separate attraction. The ceremony area faces out toward the mountain views, and a covered pavilion sits alongside a large white reception tent strung with chandeliers and lights, so the vineyard, the ceremony spot, and the reception tent all read together from the same hillside.
Capacity & Layout
Maximum occupancy is 120 guests including the bridal party, which puts a real ceiling on guest list size here; some listings put capacity closer to 150, so couples close to either number should confirm the current limit directly rather than plan around an average of the two. Either way, this reads as a mid-size vineyard wedding rather than a large-hall event.
The reception tent is the main indoor-feeling space, dressed with chandeliers and strands of white lights, while the covered pavilion offers a second option with more open air. Both sit on green space near the ceremony area, so guests are not walking far between the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, which matters on a property built around a hillside view rather than flat, paved grounds.
Amenities
A newly renovated bride’s cottage gives the wedding party somewhere private to get ready before the ceremony, and the venue’s full-service catering coordination comes with standing partnerships with a baker and a caterer, so couples are not starting a vendor search from zero. Beer and wine are handled in-house, which simplifies the bar plan compared to a venue with no in-house beverage option at all.
Liquor is BYO and requires an NC Special Occasion Liquor Permit, and the venue requires $1 million in event liability insurance, both worth building into your planning timeline early since the permit takes lead time to secure. Parking is available on site for the vineyard’s hillside layout.
Location & Getting There
The property is 20 to 25 minutes from downtown Asheville, close enough for city guests to make the drive without an overnight stay, with Asheville Regional Airport as the nearest airport for anyone flying in. The event season runs May through October, with daily hours from noon to 11pm during that window, so an off-season date is not an option here the way it might be at an indoor venue.
Because the reception happens under a tent and pavilion on an open hillside rather than inside four walls, a DJ setup has to account for wind and open air working against a closed room’s natural sound containment; the tent’s canvas sides help some, but placement and coverage matter more here than they would in an enclosed barn, especially with a view this open in every direction.
