The Space
Little Drum Landing sits at the south end of Wilmington’s Riverwalk, an outdoor deck stepping down to the Cape Fear River with an indoor room behind it. It is the only outdoor river venue in the city’s historic downtown, and couples touring it are choosing that river more than any building; from the deck you look across the water at the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and the Battleship North Carolina, both visible as the light changes into evening.
The property opened as an event venue in 2006 under the name The Riverwalk Landing before Riverwalk Hospitality Group bought it in 2018 and renamed it. Catering now runs through Elijah’s Oyster & Fish Camp and The Pilot House, two restaurants that have anchored this stretch of waterfront for 40 years, so the kitchen serving your reception has been feeding this same block of downtown Wilmington for decades before your date ever shows up on their calendar.
Capacity & Layout
The venue holds up to 200 guests total once you combine the deck and the indoor room, but the indoor space alone seats 45 and stands 75, which matters for planning: if your guest count runs past the mid-40s, your reception is functionally an outdoor event with an indoor room as backup, not the other way around. Couples booking here are choosing the deck as the real reception space and treating the indoor room as overflow, bar space, or a weather plan.
A four-hour standard event duration is the frame most couples build their whole day around here, and it is worth knowing before you draft a timeline, since it is tighter than some venues and leaves less room for a slow-building reception. Tables, white padded resin chairs, white floor-length linens, napkins and place settings are included, which covers the baseline; tents, string lights, specialty linens and heaters are available to add if you want to dress the deck further or protect it from weather.
Amenities
A bridal suite is on site for getting ready before the ceremony, and catering is handled in-house by Elijah’s Oyster & Fish Camp and The Pilot House rather than through an outside caterer you have to source yourself. All alcohol has to be purchased through the venue and served by venue staff only, so your bar plan is set the day you book rather than something you negotiate later with a separate vendor.
Two parking lots serve the property on a first-come, first-served basis and are free, which is worth mentioning to out-of-town guests since downtown Wilmington parking can otherwise be tight. Tents are recommended and available to rent for the deck, and it is worth knowing going in that the venue carries no liability for inclement weather and has no alternate indoor space if you choose not to rent one, so a tent decision is really a weather-insurance decision.
Location & Getting There
The venue sits on the Wilmington Riverwalk at the start of Ann Street, in the middle of the historic downtown waterfront, close enough that guests staying downtown can walk over. ILM, Wilmington International Airport, is the nearest airport for anyone flying in, and the riverfront setting means the ceremony backdrop is the working river itself, boats and bridge traffic included, rather than a landscaped or built setting.
The venue hosts more than 100 events a year with spring and fall as its busiest stretch, and the city’s noise ordinance sets the outer edge of your night: amplified sound has to end by 10pm Sunday through Thursday and 11pm Friday and Saturday. That curfew, on an open-air deck, means a DJ setup plays into a wide, unenclosed space with the river carrying sound outward, so speaker placement matters more than raw volume, and the indoor room behind it gives a fallback for dancing if the weather turns.
