The Space
George and Elinor Poole bought this Barnwell farm in 2016, he from a dairy farm background in Central New York, she from a farm in Pennsylvania, and grew it from 80 acres to more than 100 with a 2021 expansion. They planted lavender in 2018 with help from Clemson Cooperative Extension, opened the grounds for weddings in 2020, and finished the indoor barn venue in the summer of 2022, so the wedding side of the property is still fairly new.
The barn itself keeps its rustic character, with exposed wood walls and beams and bistro string lighting strung through the vaulted ceiling overhead. Outside, three varieties of lavender across more than 8,000 plants fill the fields, blooming from mid-May into August, alongside a pond and fountain that give the grounds a quieter, more pastoral feel than a typical event property.
Capacity & Layout
The indoor barn holds up to 120 guests, while Lavendin Hall’s rental package, which includes the venue, the patio, a bridal dressing room, and grounds access for photography or ceremony, comes with tables and chairs set for up to 100. Outdoor space on the larger property pushes total event capacity past 200, so couples with a bigger guest list lean on the fields and patio rather than the barn alone.
The 1,200 square foot stone patio, with its own outdoor fireplace and garden views, works as a natural transition space between an outdoor ceremony in the lavender fields and an indoor reception in the barn. With 500 parking spaces on site, the farm can handle a full guest list without overflow parking becoming a problem, unusual for a property this rural.
Amenities
Rental includes tables and chairs for up to 100, though linens are not part of the package, and a bridal dressing room comes with the Lavendin Hall rental for wedding-day prep. Beyond the wedding spaces, the farm runs a retail shop selling its own lavender products, soaps, lotions, bath salts, linen and room sprays, and bug repellents, made from the plants grown on site.
Guests can take a guided tour or a horse-drawn wagon ride around the property, and the farm’s annual Lavender Festival each June, with u-pick lavender, live music, shopping, and food, gives the property a public identity beyond just weddings. Accessibility is limited on the farm, worth checking ahead of time for any guest who needs it, and restrooms are available on the grounds.
Location & Getting There
The farm sits outside Barnwell, South Carolina, on rolling land that gives the whole property a working-farm feel rather than a manicured event lawn, with fields, a pond, and a fountain spread across the grounds. That rural setting is part of the draw, but it also means guests are genuinely out in the country, not in a town, when they arrive.
Between the open lavender fields for an outdoor ceremony and the barn’s vaulted, wood-beamed interior for the reception, sound setup shifts from open-air and weather-aware outside to contained and resonant once the party moves indoors under exposed beams and string lighting, so we plan for both conditions rather than one fixed room.
