The Space

Hideaway Point started out as the Historic Euchella Sports Lodge, sat vacant for years, and was eventually bought and rehabilitated by the Goodgame family into a secluded retreat property in the Nantahala Gorge. Rather than one building, it is three separate homes on a single estate: The Hideout, The Hostel, and The Holiday House, each with its own footprint, sleeping between 10 and 12 guests, spread across a property that sits on land within the ancestral homelands of the Cherokee.

The names carry real history. The Hostel takes its name and concept from a 2005 hike Ben and Liz Goodgame took across England, staying in small-town youth hostels along the way, while The Holiday House is named for a 2013 trip to Hot Water Beach on New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula that became part of the family’s own story of rest and restoration. We have worked a wedding here before, so we have seen firsthand how a property built around three separate homes changes the shape of a wedding weekend.

Capacity & Layout

Across the three homes, Hideaway Point sleeps up to 30 guests, with The Hideout offering 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, The Hostel offering 4 ensuite rooms with 5 bathrooms, and The Holiday House, the largest of the three, offering 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a maximum occupancy of 14. That structure means a wedding weekend here is less about one big room and more about a small compound, where the wedding party and closest guests actually live on-site for the duration.

Multiple gathering spaces are spread across the property, including a prep kitchen, a cedar sauna, and a fire pit, along with three hot tubs split between the homes. The Hideout’s covered porch looks out over the Smoky Mountains, which gives that home in particular a natural gathering point for the group staying there, while the picnic pavilion offers a covered outdoor space shared across the whole property.

Amenities

A commercial-style kitchen is on site, and the venue allows flexible catering arrangements, meaning couples can bring in their own caterer or prepare food on-site rather than being locked into one vendor. Complimentary use of serving pieces, beverage dispensers, tables, and decor items is included as well, which cuts down meaningfully on what a wedding party needs to rent or haul in separately for the weekend.

Flexible check-in and check-out is offered when possible to accommodate wedding events and vendor coordination, a detail that matters for a property spread across three homes with different guest groups needing access at different times. Sarah Wilson serves as the onsite groundskeeper and year-round manager, and as a certified paramedic, outdoor educator, and hospitality professional, she is also available for hire to support the event itself.

Location & Getting There

The property sits about 10 minutes from downtown Bryson City, tucked into the Nantahala National Forest just off the Mountain Waters Scenic Byway, minutes from Lake Fontana and roughly three minutes from mile marker 133.9 on the Appalachian Trail, near the Nantahala Outdoor Center. That combination of proximity to a real town and genuine forest seclusion is unusual, and it means a wedding here can lean into a true mountain retreat feel without asking guests to travel hours off the grid.

With guest gathering spread across covered porches, a picnic pavilion, and multiple outdoor spaces set among the trees of the Nantahala Gorge, sound at Hideaway Point moves between open-air mountain settings and smaller enclosed rooms inside each home, so a DJ has to plan for both: open, wind-exposed setups outdoors for a ceremony or fire pit gathering, and tighter, more contained sound inside the homes for anything held indoors.
