The Space
Heron Hill sits on eight acres of former tree farm land in Gilbert, about thirty minutes south of Columbia, and the mature hardwoods that once shaded the nursery rows still stand across the property, giving it a natural canopy that a newly planted venue could not fake. The main building, opened for events in October 2023, runs 4,000 square feet, heated and cooled, with floor-to-ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings, and crystal chandeliers overhead.
Decades-old camellia and azalea bushes, planted long before the venue existed, bloom across the grounds and carry the property’s tree-farm history into the wedding-day scenery. A covered porch and a 4,300-square-foot patio extend the building’s footprint outdoors, and a pond ceremony site with towering trees and dappled shade seats up to 300, the largest single space on the property.
Capacity & Layout
Recommended indoor capacity for the main building is 175 guests, but the layout is built to spill: couples can extend into the covered porch and patio, or add a tent, to accommodate a larger guest list without abandoning the indoor room entirely. The pond site, by contrast, seats up to 300 for a ceremony, so a couple hosting a larger wedding may find the ceremony comfortably fits guests the reception building alone could not.
Furnishings are already sized to the space: twelve handmade 8-foot farmhouse tables and fifteen 60-inch round tables come with standard wedding packages, sparing a couple from renting tables separately or guessing at a floor plan that does not match what is actually on hand. Parking attendants and golf carts are included as well, useful given the eight-acre footprint between the parking area, the pond, and the main building.
Amenities
The bridal suite is a full four-bedroom, four-bathroom space with hair and makeup stations, a lounge area, and private bathrooms, room enough for a full wedding party to get ready without doubling up. The groom’s suite is separate and includes a kitchenette, a large sectional sofa, an 86-inch smart TV, and WiFi, a real waiting space rather than a converted closet.
Rental access runs 9am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 9am to 10pm the rest of the week, though music and bar service specifically must wrap by 10pm on weekend nights and 9pm on Sunday through Thursday, timing worth building into the reception schedule early. The venue was named a 2025 Best of South Carolina Honorable Mention winner for wedding venues, and open flame is allowed for sparklers and candles as long as it stays contained in hurricane vases or floats on water.
Location & Getting There
Heron Hill sits in Lexington County, about thirty minutes south of downtown Columbia, a drive that trades city convenience for the eight acres of tree-farm land and pond setting the venue is built around.
With the main building’s hard floors and vaulted ceiling handling the bulk of the dancing and a wide covered porch and patio open to the outdoors just beyond it, a DJ setup benefits from the building’s climate control and enclosed walls for consistent sound, while the porch and patio give an easy overflow space that stays close enough to keep the music connected rather than split across two separate zones.
