The Space
Heist opened in 2012 as Charlotte’s first craft brewpub, brewing originally on a 10-barrel system inside the historic Highland Park Mill, a former textile mill in the NoDa neighborhood. The building keeps its original stonework and woodwork even as the brewing side of the operation grew, a 30-barrel production expansion arrived in 2017, and the kitchen turns out wood-fired flatbreads and beer cheese pretzels alongside the beer itself, including CitraQuench’l, the hazy IPA Heist created in 2016 as the first of its kind brewed in North Carolina.
A full buyout of the space holds 350 seated or 400 standing, but the building is really a set of distinct rooms rather than one open hall: the Library with a whiskey wall, a Mezzanine that overlooks the main dining room, the Canteen with its own stage and private entrance, and the Main Dining room with a direct view of the original 10-barrel brewing system still in use.
Capacity & Layout
Each private room scales differently. The Library seats 40 or holds 60 for a cocktail-style gathering, the Mezzanine seats 25 or holds 40, the Canteen seats 60 or holds 200 once it opens into a cocktail layout, and the Main Dining room seats 100 or holds 200 standing. That range lets a couple pick a room sized to an intimate rehearsal dinner or scale up to the full 350-seated buyout for a larger wedding.
The Canteen carries the most flexibility of the group: it has its own private entrance, a stage, A/V capability, and a private bar, with the option to extend the party into a blocked-off section of the parking lot for up to 200 people cocktail-style, useful for a couple who wants part of the night to spill outside without leaving the venue’s footprint.
Amenities
Every private space comes with the option of its own bar, on top of the venue’s full bar program of handcrafted beer and cocktails, so a couple is not funneling every guest through one central bar line all night. The Main Dining room and the Canteen both come equipped with a projector and microphone, and the Canteen adds a proper stage and full A/V setup for toasts, a first dance, or a live component to the night.
The large outdoor patio extends the footprint further, and the venue allows dogs on it, a detail that matters to couples who want a pet in the wedding party. On-site parking is available, and the Canteen’s parking-lot extension gives a couple room to plan an evening that moves between an industrial brick interior and open air without ever leaving the property.
Location & Getting There
Heist sits inside the historic Highland Park Mill in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood, a walkable arts district that gives out-of-town guests something to explore before or after the wedding itself.
With exposed brick, tall ceilings, and a mix of hard industrial surfaces across the Main Dining room and Canteen, sound carries well but can run bright in the larger open rooms, so a DJ setup benefits from choosing the right room size, the Library or Mezzanine for a quieter night, the Canteen or Main Dining for a room built to hold a full dance floor.
